Chickory is those blue daisy like flowers that grow on the side of the road and elsewhere. Young leaves are used in salad and the roots are dried and grounded and added to coffee grounds or used alone. Popular in areas of the south particularly Louisianna. Semi- famous in New Orleans. Acquired taste.

Yeah, chicory serves as a coffee replacement, or extender. I think of it more as a tea than coffee. I love the flowers!

No, you're thinking of hickory, wood of the hickory tree, which makes great furniture....but not coffee!

Shagbark hickory bark gets made into syrup too.

And hickory nuts are really good, but a pain to shell. They're like tiny walnuts, with a hard outside shell, the nut meat, the edible part inside little chambers. But the whole nut is tiny, slippery, and really really hard. Once you get all the nut meat out, you can use it like pecans or walnuts.
