Only one in my family that I can think of is my Aunt Virginia (who I was named after). She just died a few years ago at age 97. Exactly one month before her 98th birthday. She was in good health until 3 weeks before she died.

Like Ann's Mother, she was very involved. She planted a garden until she was in early nineties. I mean a very big garden. She froze and canned everything so she could eat out of her freezer in the winter. She played bridge (duplicate) and when she stopped driving in her nineties her bridge partners came to her house to they could still play. She was a music teacher and continued to play piano in church until she was 94 or 95.

I think that is one of the keys - to be involved. I am not involved anymore. One other thing she did was she got up very early in the morning, anywhere from 4:30 to 5:30. She worked around the house and then ate breakfast, most of the time it consisted of eggs and bacon
    And there's Rose's grandmother:

And she loved the fat on the pork roast.
I'm not sure the fat on the pork roast is exactly bacon but it's close enough.

Bacon's the key! This forum has once again proved itself to be remarkable. It has found the fountain of youth.

Agate, my mom isn't getting by on bacon. She doesn't have it in the house. She does have some on occasions when we go out for breakfast.

She loves pastries. Pecan rolls w lots of butter. Pecan balls (involve ice cream). All matter of sticky pastries and fudge. Go Mom.

And of course your mom's diet includes chocolate?

I'm liking this longevity diet more and more: bacon, pastries, fudge.

My maternal grandmother will be 89 in November, her father died at 97, a paternal great-grandmother died at 94. There is longevity in my family, on both sides.

But Sally, don't you know that there's a cure for MS 'just around the corner' now?

Yes, all we have to do is just inject medicine A or infuse medicine B or maybe even take medicine C in handy pill form!
