    In Pittsburgh they'll get free rides w/Uber self-driving cars

    According to BBC News, Uber is going to have driverless taxis available "later this month." The rides will be free at first.

    I'm not sure if these will be lift-equiped vehicles or how they would handle wheelchairs (or walkers or scooters).

        Me too. At first there will be a driver going along, plus an "observer." Maybe one of those people would tell the passenger what buttons to press.

        You just enter your destination somewhere on some communications gadget to let the car know where you're going, and then it goes there, right?

        What if it has a problem parking?

        It might not be very good at parallel parking... It might not keep its interval in traffic.... Could law enforcement give it a speeding ticket?

            Pittsburgh is not an easy city to drive in. It's "The Golden Triangle" were two rivers join to form the Ohio. There aren't typical square blocks.

              It reminds me of the film Total Recall. The taxi had a robot figure sitting where a driver sits, but he just collected the fare, and talked to you as the car took you to your destination.

                The robot TALKED? What could a robot possibly talk about? I've seen people talking to Siri but she isn't very chatty.

                    But Siri really talks to people. Ask her a question, and she answers. Ask her for directions or the weather forecast and you'll get it. But she doesn't exactly chat.

                      Think how many people you have a casual chat with, do the same thing. You're not going to ask them the meaning of life, but "Hot today isn't it?" or "Think it will rain soon?" or "How about those Yankees?" Humans are dull, aren't they?

                            Shucks. Maybe she's speaking some other language? Or she needs a class in speech to teach her not to mumble?
