Maybe she's just taking a break for a while. Do I remember that she does that now and then?

But this situation raises a question. How far do message board members go in trying to find members who've been absent a while?

I know renee's real name and am pretty sure I know where she works. I don't feel comfortable making a call to her workplace and asking if she's there. I'm just a cyberfriend, and employers surely take a dim view of cyberfriends calling their employees. Such a dim view that she might even be held accountable. As in:

Employer: What business do you have letting your friends contact you here? This is a workplace, etc., etc.

renee: I'm sorry. I had no idea...

Employer: "Sorry" doesn't cut it. One more instance of this and you're out of here, renee.

I'd welcome any opinions others may have about this.

Yes, she's "just" a cyberfriend but she's been active on this board for at least 15 years and has had serious health problems in the past. I wouldn't mention any of that to the workplace people--just say I'm a friend of hers, but even so it's an intrusion into her life. She did volunteer the information about her job to me, though. I didn't get it by prowling around the Internet.

I think we have to let her find us when she is willing and able. People need to be allowed to disappear. I'm not sure she has disappeared. Maybe just busy w life.

That sums up my opinion very precisely too.

I think if she has not answered your PM and FB, that you can just assume she doesn't want to engage right now. I def wouldn't call her at work. I wouldn't want me IRL friends or even family to call me at work, as well as cyber people.

Looking at the thread containing her last post, I think she may indeed be taking a break. Let's hope it won't be a permanent break.

It does seem unlike her not to reply to the PMs though.
