Crowd-funding as a way of getting needed mobility equipment or other adaptations?

A while back someone on another board needed a new van, or maybe it was a costly adaptation for an existing van, and set up a crowd-funding Website for that purpose. The last I heard, she'd had quite a few donations though I don't know if she actually got the van that way. My guess is that she did.

I've never tried this. I'm interested in opinions about it. I'm of two minds myself.

I'm not going to be doing this in the near future and I hope not at all but it's an interesting concept that seems to be working.

It might even be a way to get some funding for BrainTalk.

I'm talking about sites like GoFundMe and Kickstarter--I believe there are quite a few others.

I've heard of one person who used crowd-funding to finance a trip to Russia for HSCT (hematopoietic stem cell transplantation).

I doubt that the NYU Tisch Center is all set for funds. I believe they're starting to launch a Phase 2 trial and are looking for funding for another phase of the trial.
