    There goes the bladder

Aw for the love of Mike! Got up middle of night as usual, not particularly full, on way to bathroom bladder completely lost control. This is a first.

Hoping it's isolated incident. Nice thing about surfing is surfers all pee in their suits. Did you know that? And in winter, do it purposefully into the wetsuit paddling out and sitting out there, as a way to warm up .

All right!!! Now I REALLY want to try surfing!

Ya, never in a million years before taking up surfing would I imagine doing something like that on purpose. and paddling out after often allows just enough water in to semi flush the suit. You gotta just be sure to rinse it really good after :)

        BBS,

So sorry that this has happened. I hope it is a one time thing.

I had an incident like this when I had pain from spasticity in my legs years ago. Somehow I lost temporary control of when my body would tell me to "go". I was also sick at the time which did not help.

If you tell yourself it was a one-time thing, there's a much better chance that it will be a one-time thing. Or at least a very rare thing.

That sounds really silly and superstitious but there's something to be said for staying optimistic.

It's apt to happen to me if I'm overtired or have an infection or injury. For months after my latest fall, it was a problem. But there's always soap and water.

I am of the think positive mind too. I call it deep denial :) every time I see the neuro I say, "so you're sure I have MS?" He must think I am nuts!

I bet it was tied to increase dose of Baclofen. Maybe it is a temporary fluke. Soap and water... it was all over the floor. At 3:00 a.m. It brought to mind raising toddlers.

This is a big problem for me. If it continues for you we can talk about ways to deal with it.

Not to be completely pessimistic...but wait until your bowels fail you. Now THAT's unpleasant. There are techniques to help neurogenic bladder, and meds to treat it, if it does become a real issue. I thought baclofen was one of those? Anyway....watch fluid intake before bed. Wear protection to bed. Wetting the bathroom floor is bad enough; soiling your "nest" is worse..much worse....

Yes, I'd guess that it could relate to the baclofen as well. I've always remembered Grassman warning against it because he said with the loss of muscle tone from taking baclofen, it weakened his legs and he fell, I think he broke his leg and didn't walk again. I never forgot his warning that he gave here repeatedly. Since the bladder is a muscle, it certainly could be weakened as well, I'd guess. I've actually noticed an increase in loss of bowel control and urgency myself, I'm wondering if it could be related to it too.

So muscle weakness is a definite side effect.

I'm not sure it's working for me or helping with my leg pain either. And I seem to be having a paradoxical effect of it keeping me awake at nights rather than making me sleepy. My sleep schedule is totally off now.

It does seem to make my legs a bit weaker, and, now that you mentioned it, I have greater "urgency" to urinate more often than previously too.

So, I'm on the fence about continuing it myself.

Hopefully your loss of control will be an isolated issue!

And I didn't know about peeing in your wetsuit either - amazing the little nuggets of info we learn here!

Wanted to "thank" your post, Cat, but that button is missing.

                        So, "thanks"!

I don't think I could function without Baclofen, the spasm pain was so horrendous.

But I do recall MJ can help spasms. Medical MJ is legal in Florida now. I will ask neuro about it. My questions now cover an entire page.

Yes. I was thinking the very same thing today on my way to the beach, "what will I do if my Bowel control fails. "I decided I would run into the ocean, drop trouser and let the ocean take care of it, maybe scream, and def call the doc for advice.i was thinking of you because I recalled you writing about that in the past.

BBS, I too hope this is isolated incident. Like Agate said, tell yourself it is.

Now about that going in your wet suit - very interesting. I bet it is true that some people pee in pools all the time too. I always had a bad feeling about pools because of that. Now, I know to stay away from areas where surfers are in the ocean. I can never look at another person in a wet suit without wondering????
