(OT) Shark bites--part of BBS's surfing world

A boy bitten by a shark in Florida--a bite requiring 42 stitches--may be getting a refund for the $80 he had spent on a shark-repellent bracelet. Interesting that the first time he wore the bracelet, he got bitten by a shark:

The science behind that little device sounds wrong to me. Sharks hunt by detecting magnetic fields of prey, and that device creates a magnetic field. What's wrong with this picture?

Howie, I bet BBS can tell us. Nice to see you woke up this evening!

Maybe it was just me and I had not seen you.

Yes this beach occurred at the beach next-door to where I serve. It is a beautiful little beach, but not great for surfing. Except in certain conditions. It was hilarious that the boy ran into his mother's apartment after he was beach and shout it out, "don't panic mom!"

My girlfriend wore one of those bracelets once. Then we all pointed out to her that if the shark was attracted to our general area and avoided her, he might go after one of us. She never wore the bracelet again. Although the videos are very compelling, I never thought that the bracelets would work anyway.

Telling his mom not to panic as he appears all bloody from a shark bite--LOL!

Maybe the shark-repellent bracelet actually attracts sharks. Sounds like it!

That's what I thought Agate. Sharks are a very primitive creature. They don't like that "taste" of humans, but don't know that until they take a bite. The shark says "Yuck" and swims away, but the human will quickly bleed to death unless near quick help.

You all are making me so very glad that I do not know how to swim!

You use to know how to swim. Ever see them put babies in a pool? They just swim to beat the band. I loved to swim, and would be interested to see how MS has affected that ability.

Pool time is great for MS. You cannot fall. You can do as little or as much as you want. They sell these waist bands that keep you upright if needed.

I would definitely need one because even before getting MS, I just sank to the bottom.

Virginia, you just might find that now, with MS, you float instead of sinking to the bottom.

                        I don't know.

I do know that when I sit in the bathtub reclining against the back of the tub slightly, my arms bounce up to the surface of the water. There's no way I can get them to stay down on the floor of the tub.

They never did that before I had MS.
