Virginia, no one came down, and I'm glad actually. I love my family, but I also LOVE solitude. I haven't seen my brother in a few years, but we talk on the phone all the time. I am a lone wolf...HOWLLLLLLLL!!!

Agate, these two get turkey DAILY!!! So it was time for cat daddy to have a little, but even so, they did get some scraps. Darn cats!

Well, as is common with turkey, I'm just waking up from a nap. It felt good and we'll see if I can sleep later. If not, it doesn't matter. That's a nice thing about being retired. Your time is yours.

      About floor surfaces.
Bathrooms can get wet, so floors tend to be hard so that they can be wiped up easily.

For me, carpets can be hard to walk on. Not enough stability for my ankles.

Yes, carpeting can be a problem! My feet tend to catch in the carpeting somehow, or maybe I should blame the shoes.

I don't catch the carpet. It's more like walking a soft air mattress or water bed.
Bare foot is okay, but flip flops can be bad.

Why do I always walk so much better in my own home? I think I have heard others say that.

I've probably said that. You know where everything is. You probably can find your way around your own home with your eyes shut. Most people can, I think.

Moving shatters me pretty badly precisely because I can't do that any more, and it takes quite a while to relearn it, but it does happen.

Also, you've probably set things up so that things are convenient for you--you have the room temperature where you want it, you have the light switches where you can reach them, you have paths cleared where you usually walk, and above all you know the terrain. You know where the turns are and when carpeting changes to tile. If you have area rugs you know where they are.

I am looking at this second version of the U-verse walker. I like that it is weighted to be of help if you start to fall. They say it is Medicare approved:

Thanks Ann, I watched the video and it looks interesting. Just looking at it I think I would like it better than any I have seen. Do you think you will try it out?

That looks good to me too. I like the spring-loaded front caster. And the basket under the seat. The basket on my rollator sticks out and bumps into things sometimes. I'm not sure I'd like the cueing options--those look fairly complicated to control.

Agate, the cueing is for use in Parkinson's. Kind of like having a physical therapist w you.
