    New kitchen suggestions?

    We are designing our handicap friendly house.

    Half of The island will be low. There will be chopping room and a small sink. Can I put a stove top on it ? I would like to be able to sauté dishes, and pull my wheelchair by it. How does it work out? Does one pull under with the wheelchair. That sounds dicey.

    Right now I have a regular cooktop. But I can't stand long. I have a high up stool I can half sit upon, but that's not great either.

    Suggestions?

    Is there something I should keep in mind for the fridge and the oven?

            I have come a long way since first post in learning. And the disease has progressed enough that I really need the low counter, cooktop and sink today!

            Here is a video someone sent me of a kitchen. It’s sweet too.

              BBS, looks like a great area to cook in (if one must cook)! Seriously, I think it is a wonderful way for a wheelchair to get around.

                BBS, that is a neat kitchen!

                I notice she mentions hands-free faucets--you wave your hand to turn the water on. I hope hers work better than the ones I've encountered. They tend not to be working in places where I've had to use them, but maybe that was just poor maintenance on the building's part.

                The oven doors that open like a refrigerator are really nice to have. I lived in a place once that had two ovens, both with that type of door, and I loved them. They were eye-level too.

                  Yes, I too dislike the hands free faucets, they often don’t work!

                    Hands free, like the ones in public places? Or the ones you barely touch to turn off and on? My son has the latter. It took me a long time to learn how to use it.
