Was talking with some people yesterday at an MS support groups. and they were saying baclofen is bad for your liver. Anyone else hear this? I've been taking it for years.
Your doctor should be checking your liver with regular labs. If you have a PCP he/she should know you are taking this medication and any others that you might be taking even supplements and OTC can affect the liver. Not just this drug but anything can affect the liver as everything goes through it.

Mark, I can't find any info that it is bad for the liver or is a drug that needs monitoring bloods. Drugs can be excreted in the liver, kidneys or feces. Baclofen is excreted by the kidneys. Here is a quote from drugs.com that I verified through several other resources:
Baclofen is rapidly and extensively absorbed and eliminated. Absorption may be dose-dependent, being reduced with increasing doses. Baclofen is excreted primarily by the kidney in unchanged form and there is relatively large intersubject variation in absorption and/or elimination.
I've been taking it for 16 yrs. now with no problems. My PCP does blood work every 4 months to check liver etc. for this med and others. I feel very confident with this procedure to keep an eye on things.

It was bad for me because I could not detox it because I also have Porphyria. On my first day of Baclofen I ran into the wall like a drunk, ran into a chest of drawers, etc. Quit, of course. Didn't know what was wrong, had no dx of Porph then, just of MS. The other drug given for spasticity made me almost too weak to walk. I do help my spasticity with Klonopin and Magnesium.

Baclofen is not known to be hepatotoxic or renal toxic. I can speak to the diarrhea/constipation one. That is because Baclofen is a muscle relaxant. Your body uses muscles to evacuate waste. Baclofen is not harmful to the liver like many drugs. It is more likely to harm your kidneys.
I can also speak to the unusual urination. That is countered by drinking lots of fluids and ensuring your doctor checks your renal functions. Although, it is possible Baclofen could hurt your kidneys. Unfortunately, many drugs can harm your kidneys or your liver.
Hope it helps!

I wish she would pay attention to what year things were posted and not dredge them up over a year later. She did this with several threads and it's rather irritating.
Whatever happens around you, don't take it personally. Nothing other people do is because of you. It is because of themselves. -- Miguel Ruiz
I'd be inclined to agree but maybe we should give her the benefit of the doubt. We don't know much about her. Maybe she is unfamiliar with the ways of message boards and thinks that bringing up old threads is a way to start contributing.
It does look as if she's been trying to interest people in her blog primarily.
I'm sure we'd all like to get to know her better. Maybe she'll decide to post more in threads that are current.
