AAN 2018 article: Start Treatment early for MS
Collapse

I started treatment 27 years after my first hospitalization. It seems to be working. I have rare exacerbations that don't last long and steroids aren't even suggested (I probably wouldn't take them anyway). Also my MRI's show less accumulation of lesions by volume than the "average MS patient."
Earlier might have been better-er. ;-)

Edited to add that the article used the words "probably better" more often than I usually see in a scientific report. There comes a time when silence is betrayal.- MLK

Howie, you may be just kidding but there are many people who started on an MS drug after having MS for 20 years or more. I started Avonex when I'd had MS 23 years, for instance.
Interesting that the article treats SPMS as still a problem area. Particularly since I just ran across a couple of people (in another online location) with SPMS who have been prescribed Ocrevus.I should add that I don't "know" the people well. It could be that they've misunderstood the kind of MS they've been diagnosed with.
I'm trying to break this post up into a few paragraphs but when I look at its preview or its final version, the paragraphs don't show up.It's probably that I'm still able to see only the HTML version of this board. If others are seeing the regular version, I hope someone will let me know if you're seeing paragraph breaks in my post, please. I tried to have 5 paragraphs but suspect I'll see only one.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Agate, I only see one paragraph.
And I was kidding, but not kidding. I've never taken any of the MS drugs in the 20 years I've had it. I still walk and drive. I've been very lucky."Given the millions of billions of Earth-like planets, life elsewhere in the Universe without a doubt, does exist."

Agate, Pinky is my hot pink 1973 Karmann Ghia. Ain't she purdy?

I was the one grousing around about paragraph breaks. I had a problem yesterday but now the board is showing up the way it ought to look. The HTML version is hard to navigate in, and there aren't any of the neat options at the top of the message window. The part I found hardest to take was not being able to show paragraphs. There's a way but I've forgotten how, obviously.Originally posted by Catdancer View PostVirginia, the breaks are showing up just fine in your post.
I have always urged people to start the drugs early in their diagnosis. I didn't have that "luxury", having been diagnosed long before any drugs were available. But I do think they help some people.
Today I fixed up yesterday's posts. Their paragraphs are now all shipshape, I hope.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.
