    Cherie ~

My son, Jonathan, has many of those symptoms from hypothyroid. Unfortunately, he had numerous side effects on Synthroid. I hope it works well for you.

It's about 3:30 p.m. here and this is the temperature in our city:

    Screen Shot 2018-07-06 at 3.22.05 PM.png

We are hotter than the desert. We live about 20 miles from the ocean, and we often have sea breezes. But we're hotter than the desert!

A/c and all of our fans are running.

Praying that we don't have a massive power outage. Our generator keeps Jon's bed, mattress and TV working, as well as our fridge. It can't handle our central a/c. In this heat, Jon would surely spike a temperature, and he's already at 99.8.

    Long weekend ahead for us.

    Love & Light,

    Rose

P.S. People are still setting off fireworks and firecrackers!

That sounds very hard and scary. When I lived in Sacramento valley it sometimes was that hot, and often hit 100. But I was young n healthy. It sounds dangerous for anyone but the healthy.

Hope you and yours can stay out of it, Rose! I've heard of people having emergency backup generators for their houses but have no idea how feasible that is. Probably very costly and risky as well.

I've seen them advertise an emergency generator on TV that switches on automatically when you loose power. But they don't show the price. Most anything can be financed through a bank.

Thank you for the suggestion of a back up automatic generator. I found a variety of them at Home Depot for about $5K, but I have no idea what installation costs would be. I didn't even know such a thing existed! So thank you so much!

I will discuss this with Jim, because it would be much better for us than our gas-powered generator. Our generator has to be moved to the side of the house when in use, so the gas fumes don't come into the house. Jim can't move it now, and we needed John's help the last time we used it. Plus, we have to have gas to run it. It runs for 8 hours, then needs more gas. (Much like me! )

This would give me peace of mind and reduce my fear of outages. We've had many outages through the years, which is why we bought the generator.

We have a trusted HVAC friend, so I'll probably call him to see if he can install one for us.

              Thank you again!

Generac makes a propane driven generator that becomes an integral part of your electric system. You can add it onto a pre-existing home. He add locally says the system start at $7900. That probably does not include the cost of the propane.

Years ago I was hearing that hospitals and many nursing homes routinely have backup generators so that a power outage won't be a problem for them. More recently I've been hearing about quite a few people with houses (maybe mobile homes as well?) getting them.

They talk about it being a requirement in florida after the nursing home deaths in south florida in Irma. Not sure if it’s done yet. What’s the hurry? They’re old! They’re disabled! Worthless!

I bought a Kohler generator and then a team of plumbers and electricians installed it. It powers the whole house and my two big greenhouses if there is a power outage. It will come on by itself. I have a 450 gallon propane tank that powers it. It tests itself every Friday morning!

The whole thing including installation cost me about $15,000 but I would be out of business without it! We used to have a Honda gas powered generator but during a power outage we had to keep filling it with gas every 8 hours.

There are smaller generators that will power a house.
                      Good luck.

                        Thank You!

Jim and I talked about it this afternoon, and he agreed that this would be a good idea for us. He said that he knew these generators existed and that he'd mentioned it to me years ago, when we bought the gas generator. Now, I vaguely recall this, but truthfully, I have so much stuff running around my brain, that sometimes I don't stow certain things away for retrieval at a later date.

Jim described the basic process, that we'd need a new fuse box and wiring, and that we'd have to clear out our garage (ugh!), although I'm not sure why.

He was trying to estimate the total cost and just came up with $10k randomly. Jim asked me if I was okay with the cost, and I replied, "Well, we'll have to give up the yacht, the gold Mercedes, and our Italian villa vacation. But I think it will be worth it."

I can justify the generator as a tax deduction for our business, since our primary reason for it is for Jonathan. If it were just Jim and me, we could simply leave and go to any place with a/c (mall, theater, restaurant, hotel ...). How much is our peace of mind and the reduction of stress worrying about an outage worth? And Jim knows that he cannot move that generator any more.

So, we need an electrician and a plumber? We have a great plumber, and perhaps he can recommend an electrician. If not, our HVAC guy could. I'll add this to my list of 10,000 things I need to do next week, including Jon's podiatry visit and his GI's visit, and Jim's infusion and scan results review.

                        Thanks again!

:) I scheduled my van's AC repair for Monday. Tonight I went to hear Andy's band and when I came home the house was 85 degrees. The central air quit working. It has been making a noise for awhile. $1775.68 for the van and no idea on the house, probably $7000.00. It was over 100 here today and humid.

I am frustrated but there is a reason for everything and I am just grateful I can have the work done without too much stress moneywise. I have a ceiling fan in the computer room, the living room and one in my bedroom but it does not work anymore. I may get Jim to come and put the window AC in my bedroom and change the ceiling fan. Andy's band mate is the one to do the central AC and I will have him do it whenever he can fit it in his schedule. Jeanie :)

Jeanie, please make your central ac a priority and don’t just “fit it in” to someone’s schedule. Our Sally’s ac went out in a heat wave, she fell and was on the floor for 3 days. You know her story. She was in Ohio but you are in Florida. Don’t take a chance.

Treat it as the emergency it is.
