Reminder: Heat and Meds

We are having a really bad heat wave in New England. Hot and humid for 4 days. Today is the second day.

I was just in a cupboard to get something and saw my meds. I put them all in a bag and temporarily moved them to an air conditioned room. Heat degenerates meds.

Thanks for reminding us!

Would putting them in the fridge work, do you think?
SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

I think it depends on the individual meds. Most say to keep in a “cool, dry place” without setting parameters on the cool. I just realized that where I had mine was not a good place for a heat wave.

Putting them in the fridge is probably not a good idea -- it's cold and damp in there. Keeping them with you in a room with an air conditioner, or at least a fan, is your best option.

People also should know that even though bathrooms have medicine cabinets -- the bathroom, especially if that is where you take a bath or shower, is a really bad place to store your meds, too! It is always damp in there!

I store mine in a nightstand..a small cabinet beside my bed...

Thanks for this reminder. One I needed. I need to think where I have mine.
