New studies show more than nearly 1 million persons with MS in US

For years the total number of persons with MS in the US has been stated at around 400,000 even though many had questions about that figure. The National MS Society has just recently come up with a figure that is close to 1 million. This article (February 15, 2019) is from the NMSS News--"Landmark Study Estimates Nearly 1 Million in the US with Multiple Sclerosis":

Finally, we're getting some better statistics.

Now, maybe we can get more funding.

I knew that 400,000 number had to be wrong. Everyone I know has MS!

Looks as if the old figure was based on studies done in 1975, which was before MRIs were available for diagnosing MS. They must have been unearthing far more cases since MRIs came along--and maybe increased awareness of it has meant that more people with MS have been found.

It seems odd that this isn't being studied more often. Maybe once every 10-15 years instead of every 40+ years?
