    S L O W Board

Where are the posts. Most of the activity is on the Chit Chat thread. It is so slow here. It seems it takes one page a week to move along.:ambivalence:

Here's my take on it. For a while message boards were doing quite well--active, busy, sometimes almost too busy. Then along came the realization that just about anybody could set up a message board and even make it exclusively for some people and not others. So off went whole groups of people who preferred to be with only those people they felt safe with. Some of those groups are still out there, and that's of course their privilege to set up boards of their own and run them as they wish.

More recently Facebook and other social media have come along, and many find those sites so interesting and time-consuming that they spend most of their Internet time there.

I'm not saying message boards like this one are on their way out. I'm saying that some people have been diverted to other ways of communicating. They might get bored with those alternatives and return here, or they might not.

I've noticed that people who enjoy computers tend to drift easily toward the next good thing coming down the pike, whether it's smart phones or whatever.

This board still has a lot to offer, IMO. I'd be happier if it was easier to post images. I'd be even happier with better emoticons.

And it's too bad that many people have felt stymied when they tried to get in here. I see that it was necessary because BrainTalk was in danger of being overwhelmed by spammers. They had to put up some serious roadblocks.

I say give it time. The people in charge have made it clear that they'll be working on problems over time, and that it will take time to fix some of them.

This board is lucky to have many loyal members who've been around for many years, with a wealth of experience they're willing to share.

If you want faster boards, I'm sure there are many out there to choose from. I never cease to be amazed at how many MS boards and MS blogs there are.

I agree with Agate as this board has gone through several changes and crashes through out the years OMG I have been here for years?!?! Something that I have noticed is whenever there is a question directed to admin there is an answer with in a day something that never happened before. I know that several people post on more than one board. I post on several blogs myself. As well as facebook.

There are faster boards and there are boards that if you don't check them several times a day you are completely lost. One of the reasons that Chit Chat moves so fast, at least IMO, is that people with a chronic illness need something besides MS to think about. I know that some folks don't like it this is a MS board after all. And if I remember correctly that was the reason that OT Chit Chat was started. The other major complaint is that it is clique. I have NEVER seen anyone that was ignored or given the cold shoulder. You have to post to get responses.

I still post questions but I tend not to give advice only because I usually don't have much to add. Over the years I have made some good friends through BT and there have been people that have come and gone. But there is one constant here at BT, during those times when I am overwhelmed with good ole MS problems I can come here for support and at times a swift kick in the butt.

Gabriella I am sorry that I hijacked your thread. I think that once winter sets in there will be more folks finding there way here.

A lot of the people who haven't migrated back, left here under not so warm and fuzzy circumstances. I made the mistake of leaving with a group who started a private forum. It was awful, so I'm back with my tail between my legs..

I am a member now of another nice slow forum, just like this one and I split my time between homes. Like a child of divorse, with 2 sets of parents.:o

You can never go back and most of the time you shouldn't. MGH has become Braintalk and is what it is. Times change, people change, damn FB, but my MS remains a royal pain in the "stars" I like the peeps who have stayed and returned and still returning.

I think BT is much better now and improving every day, so as long as I'm welcome, I'm staying...to see...WHAT'S NEXT!!! The Chat thread is nice, to talk about other things, but it is not what made Braintalk famous and popular. It's the newbys!!!

Ditto about the changes and crashes. Ditto about admin being more responsive. Ditto the numerous outlets for communicating.

OT vs MS-only was always a "debate". Those in favor of OT pointed out that MS affects all areas of our lives, in addition to the need to think about other things.

The "clique" complaint surfaces because the same people submit more posts than others and personal references are made. But some people are just more talkative than others. Some people have more to add (and aren't shy about it). The more one posts, the more other people learn about them. Like Gary, I've never seen anyone given a cold shoulder. [Unless they had become particulary annoying and causing problems]. If responses weren't made quickly it usually was because the posts were inadvertantly missed or there was not much to say. An effort was made to respond. For awhile we had a thread trying to get to know the newbies, then the complaint was we were interrogating them.

I really don't feel like I have much to add anymore to the discussions. I don't have serious problems. My information is out of date and I haven't really kept up with new developments. I'm posting more at present to be considered a full member and do some catching up.

                  Valid Reasons

I like all the responses and agree with the reasons. This is the first MS board that I joined way back in 2001 because my son told me about it. I've been through the crashes and joined some of the other boards that sprang up in the void of not having BT. It is the one that I have returned to when like Sally I was invited to join one of the private boards which did not work out for me. I do draw the line when it comes to outright blasphemy and vulgarity even on a private board. Another one which I was on for a while with Big Bird and then it just suddenly dissolved. Marc started his blog which is very informative and I look forward to reading that every week.

I guess I'm just bored having to be homebound for the summer season and looking for answers to some of the problems that having a chronic disease such as MS brings. Agate's post has a lot of the answers and I have joined Facebook to keep up with all the grandchildren (6) who are all in college both at home and abroad. That has been a joy for me to read what they are doing. With all the technical gadgets that people have now I don't see how anyone has enough time for all of them.

Gary, you don't need to apologize for adding to the tread as more replies are what is needed.

I really wasn't complaining about the board but just remember how it used to be here at BT when a page would just fly off in a day to be replaced by others posting and a lot of those others have moved elsewhere. I'm the type of person who wants things to remain the same and they just don't anymore. I still have to look at my e-mail and FB. That's life and it is way past time for me to be in bed as I start the 3 days of IVIG infusions tomorrow morning. My husband will be waking me up at 7am and driving me to the center. So good night everybody.

I just spent an excruciating 45 mins on a reply and it disappeared.
                    Oh well.
                    We'll see who migrates here.

The board has been far too polite, PC and language censored for a year anyway...for my taste.

Where is the spice, controversy??? Agree to disagree.
May as well go to Johns Hopkins and read about MS and bum myself out.

I have too much scary stuff on my plate to want to talk about disease-
                    forget about being actively sympathetic.
                    My ears would start bleeding.

                        My plate is....

Overflowing at the moment also. I'm with you Renee. We need a little more spice in life and it is a good way to get rid of some of frustrations that this damn disease brings our way. Here I am again as I cannot sleep after the infusion where they add Bendryl and Solumedrol to the IVIG, I sleep thru the infusion for 4 hours and then come straight home into the bed and and sleep until 6:30 then I am wired from the solumedrol until 1:30 am. My husband will be waking me up at 7:00 am to go again tomorrow.

My PCP doc is on top of all the tests I need the colonoscopy, the mammogram, and a sleep study is already scheduled before the end of the year. All my social engagements are filled up......sorry.

                            Chico?

Renee, funny to end with Chico as I order my clothes from Chico's when they are marked way way down. The Travelers line is so comfortable when one needs to be in a wheelchair. They are like wearing your pj's and have elastic in the waist. I have a friend who has started calling me "Chico"....
