Sad,sad news - joan (nuthatch) peters has passed away!!

I am so sorry to have to post this news. David Peters, Joan's husband, just called and told me that Joan died on the fourth of this month. She had gallstones, was carried to the hospital, but they were unable to do anything for her. They gave her antibiotics and sent her home. She died a couple of days later.

Joan was heavy through the chest and they were unable to perform laparoscopic surgery.

Nuthatch would have been 68 on August 9th. Her son and daughter, along with David, were by her side when she died very early in the morning. They are not planning any services. She is being cremated. David is going to be at home this week and is going to his daughter's next week, then he is back home for another week and going to his son's for a week. He will be helping his son build a pirate's ship for Everett his grandson.

I told him what a great, great loss this would be to our community. He was aware that we have had other loses recently.

David does not want his address given out on the forum, but for those of you who want to send a card or note he has given me permission to give it out. So PM me if you want to send him a note.

    Oh no.

I remember, right back when Joan used the name "cheer" what a lovely person she was.

I feel so bad, she was so worried about her health, always thinking of others, and Tula, who had lost her other grandmother recently.

My heart goes out to her family, and is with Tula and Everett. I'm glad David will be spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Thanks for letting us know, Virginia. Very sad news.

    Fly high, dear nuthatch.

:) It is so sad that Joan died. She was remarkable. When I was in rehab she sent me flowers and cards and they really helped get me out of depression.

I sent her a note recently telling her how helpful she was to me and how much I appreciated it. I will keep her family in my prayers. Jeanie :)

Oh, how very sad I am to hear this news. Joan will be missed so much by all of us.

She had a difficult year, having pneumonia in the winter and being hospitalized. As SuzE said, she had mentioned health concerns recently.

My prayers for peace, comfort and strength are with David, their children, Tula and Everett, and all of their loved ones. I am grateful that Joan passed surrounded by their love. It's good that David is going to spend time with them now.

Thank you, Virginia, for letting us know. My love and thoughts are with you and everyone here.

I will miss your interesting posts and wonderful photos of your home, poppies, critters, birds, and your beautiful grandchildren. You always lifted my spirits, and you supported me so kindly and generously.

May you rest peacefully in God's Arms, dear friend.

Such very sad news! Yes, she mentioned some cardiac concerns recently but it sounds as if this was something else.

I'm so very sorry--and will send a note.

Thank you, Virginia, for letting us know.

I cannot say it more eloquently than those have. But I always enjoyed reading about her life, and her loving photos of her family.

I remember her as cheers too. She contributed so much to this place over the years--posting beautiful photos and music links as well as letting us know what was going on with her and her family--and giving helpful replies to others here. She kept us up to speed in the bird world too.

There's a gaping hole in this board now.

Agate, you are right about "a gaping hole". Joan was kind and caring and always wanted to help anyone she could on here.

Agate, you too are always ready to help on this board, as is Rose! Others on here are always at the ready with information or looking up things on the internet, or helping with anything they can. There have been times when I did not know what I would have done without this forum.

I am still so sad, and I know all of you are too. Joan had become a friend to me through text and phone calls. We shared things and joked about our growing up days. Joan was the second child of 5 and the only girl. I was the second child of 4 and the only girl. We commiserated about growing up in a house full of boys with no other girls. She generously shared pictures of Tula and Everett in her text. When I answered the phone Sunday I thought it was her calling and I was ready to settle in and talk for awhile. We had not talked since the protest began and I wanted to hear what she thought about everything that was going on. Then David said my name. He was calling from her phone, and I immediately knew something was wrong.

David is going to try and get her 4 brothers to come there at a time when their son and daughter along with the grandchildren can be there. None of the brothers have seen Joan's grandchildren. I think this would be the most pleasing thing they could do to honor her. I hope he can work it out. I think it would also be good for him.

David does not go on the computer. I think he just doesn't have any desire to, so he will not be joining us. However, from time to time I will give him a call just to let him know that we are all thinking of him. I am glad that some of you are sending him a card or note. I got a card off yesterday. He must be very lonely, even though I am sure the children will call him every day. It just isn't the same.

A message from Tom Cat after I had let him know this sad news--she attended the online memorial gathering for Cat Dancer:
Sorry to hear about nuthatch's passing. Yes, I had some communication with her. It seems she and [Cat Dancer] were quite close. Send my deepest thoughts to all. Tom

It sounds as though you and Joan finally found the sister you were missing in your families. I am so glad for both of you that you had that close connection. You know grief well, so you know that you'll miss Joan forever.

I feel so blessed by all of the wonderful friends I have made through BrainTalk. How fortunate we all are to have met.

It would be so nice for Joan's brothers to visit and spend time with David and their son and daughter and grandchildren. I hope they can work that out too.

Sending prayers for peace and comfort to all ~
