    US stimulus payments

Looks as if some in the US will soon be receiving $1,400 stimulus payments, maybe even this weekend. The AARP tells about it:

Using the online tool offered by the .gov Website, I find out that I may not be eligible for a payment but they are supposedly paying stimulus checks to people on Social Security who don't file tax returns. They are still processing the checks and will be sending them out in the next several days as I understand it.

I was so impressed with how fast I got my tax refund this year. I usually go into IRS and print off all copies of everything I need, fill everything out and go back in and type everything. Then I print that out, sign it and send it off.

This year I had all 1099s and information I needed shortly after the 1st of February. I started to do the same thing I normally had been doing. When I went into the IRS site I saw something called "Free Tax USA". I decided I would investigate and if I didn't like it or didn't feel good about it I could just delete myself out. They ask questions about everything a person might possibly have so I would just fill in the blanks. At the end of doing my Federal it then asked if I wanted to let them do my State Taxes for $12.98. (that's where they get their money I guess) At first I thought no, I don't think so because I fall under something called the Bailey Act in my State. If you have any retirement income from Federal or State Government you do not have to count it on your State taxes. I decided I would see if there was any way I could account for that. Right away I was asked if any of my income was under the Bailey Act. I was so impressed.

So, I printed out a copy of everything for myself. I let them send everything in for me. I didn't have to send a copy of any 1099s or sign anything. Believe it or not I received my tax refund about two to 2 1/2 weeks later. I was checking my bank account on line and I thought WOW that was faster than I could have gotten to the P.O. almost. Never know what you can find on line.

      Agate,

I hope the .gov site failed to communicate clearly and that you will be pleasantly surprised to find that the government plans to stimulate the economy via you after all !

Some people have theirs already but those are people with jobs, not retirees. I believe that for some reason it's taking longer to get the checks to those on Social Security.

Thanks for the good wishes! This windfall will be very welcome if/when it comes.

Here is the official "tool" the government is providing to let you know when and how your payment is or is not scheduled.

Don't let the scary warning put you off...I found that my stimulus is scheduled for two days from now !

Hope you are the same or sooner !

            Thanks for the helpful link!

I'm told that "payment status not available," which it explains as:

The Get My Payment application will return "Payment Status Not Available" if:
            • We haven’t yet processed your Economic Impact Payment;
            • We don’t have enough information to issue you a payment; or
            • You aren’t eligible for a payment.

The IRS will continue to issue the 2021 Economic Impact Payments throughout 2021. Please check the Get My Payment tool for updates on your payment status.
            I'll stay tuned.

Geeze ! It seems a little cruel to keep you hanging like that ?

Maybe they are processing them alphabetically and maybe your last name begins with a Z.

              I'm rooting for you !

Yeah, when I think about it I was getting that message the first stimulus until it finally came through.

Thanks for the link Brian. Mine has not been processed yet, but it said to keep checking daily.

I don't think I was told to keep checking daily but that's OK. I'll take it if and when it shows up in my account.

Like Brian I am scheduled to get mine on the 17th, two more days.

Agate and Howie, it might have something to do with if you file income taxes or not. I think you all will get your stimulus, it just may take them a little longer to figure out that you are there and eligible.

Edited to add: Unless you both make over $75,000 per year!

Thank you for the link, Brian.

I am also in limbo. I did read somewhere, possibly in the FAQs section, that the system is updated once a day. So, checking daily, instead of several times a day, saves us wasted time.

The wheels of government grind at a slow pace.

People with MS don't typically earn princely incomes for some reason. We richly deserve princely incomes of course but maybe our reward will be in an afterlife.

We received our's today. They are attempting to be all inclusive, using bank deposits, checks, even debit cards. May take a little longer, but seems like it should arrive for most in one way or the other.

Thanks, Dar! I was prowling around on a number of Websites trying to get information, and all I've been able to find out is that for those who don't file tax returns, it might take longer for the stimulus check to be issued but that should happen.
