Whoa doggies -- looking deader than a doornail...

Sorry to see it....have my own opinions on it, but sorry to see it....

    dear mr. troll,

i can see by clicking on your name and looking at your profile that you've been a member here since 2006 and have all of 28 posts.

you started posting here in march. your last post before your above post was about 2 and a half months ago.

BT has been through HUGE changes since 2006. in the last few months there have been several global polls asking members to give their opinions on what they would like to see on the home page and other questions. have you ever posted a suggestion in a global poll?

well, why didn't you post your opinions? this is a forum, that means people exchange ideas or information or offer support. they don't say, "oh, this place looks deader than a doornail" after they haven't posted in months and then run away. there is a "braintalk feedback forum". have you ever posted there? i'm sure your opinions would be read.

i really dislike people who don't participate and then start biotching about how bad things are. i have been here since 2000. if i am asked my opinion about anything in these forums in a global poll and i think i can make a contribution, i respond. sometimes i even give my opinions about things i don't like about these forums without being asked .

but i never just biotch about these forums and then run and hide. that disrespects all the people who are trying to make these forums work.

i usually end my posts with the words, "thank you for sharing and caring", but i can't say that with honesty to your post.

      ((((((Dave))))))

Since I don't know you, I clicked on your profile to read some of your previous recent posts. I read the entire 5 page thread you posted in April, before you "slid under the bridge" again.

From reading your posts, I recognized your sense of humor, style and tone, so I attributed that to your title and post here. I also noted some of your criticisms of BT, both past and present, as well as your appreciation for the caring and support you received here in April.

I'm an old timer with BT too, having joined in 2000. My "home" forum is Child Neurology, but I roam the community and post where I feel I can contribute.

Those of us, who are active, loyal BT members, are sensitive about our community's struggles to maintain and rebuild our membership. It's like we suffered through a Cyber Super Storm, which wiped out the entire place. We had to start over from scratch. Our leader abandoned us. We were rescued by three brave and wonderful men, Dan, David, and Mike. And they work diligently to maintain and continually improve our community. And we work with them. We pick up shovels and hammers and we go to work, sharing and caring with all who visit here.

After the Cyber Super Storm, many members moved to other forums, while waiting for BT to be rebuilt. They remained at those other forums, rather than returning to BT. Others moved to social media venues, especially Facebook. Many members lurk, but do not post. There is so much competition in the cyberworld, that it is difficult compete for the attention of former members or new members.

Mike is doing everything he can to enhance BT to attract members to return or to join our community. And everything he does is fantastic. But all of the bells and whistles are meaningless, unless we all take responsibility for our new community. How good we are is up to us. We are the ones, who make this community whatever it is. By sharing our knowledge, our life lessons, our experience, our compassion, our understanding, our friendship with each other. We laugh together, cry together, grieve together. We are a real community.

We can make Brain Talk, and every one of our forums, whatever we want them to be. It's not about quantity, it's about quality.

I love to recall the old days of BT, when I couldn't keep up with the posts on Child Neuro, let alone respond to any other posts. I miss all of those dear friends terribly, and the energy of those days, but I realize that things change, and we have to change with them. Moving forward, rather than looking over our shoulders at the past, is the best direction any of us can take.

So, I welcome you back from under the bridge and encourage you to explore our new surroundings and meet our community, start conversations, chime in on other conversations, and enjoy all of the benefits of being here among friends, who truly care about you.

      Love & Light,

      Rose

          Hey Troll :)

I'd like to know your opinions shoot me a pm or an email :)
Question: Why can't I post links or pictures?
Question: Why can't I have a signature, avatar, or profile picture?
Question: What's wrong with my account?

Answer: You are in the "registered users" user group. This group is very limited in what it can do. This will annoy spammers to no end Just keep posting once you have been registered for 30 days and have made 11 posts your account will be "unlocked".

It's really easy to put someone on ignore and it's strongly recommended that you do so with people who's posts you don't like.

          Step 1 - log in
Step 2 - click on the "settings" link
Step 3 - click on the "edit ignore list" link on the left side of the screen
Step 4 - type (or paste if you copied and pasted it) the username of the person you want to ignore
Step 5 - click the "ok" button on the right of the screen

Easy peasy and will lower your blood pressure. One important note though, this won't hide quoted posts. It's an oversight on the developers part and it's not an easy thing to "fix." So if someone quotes someone you have ignored, you'll see the quote.

Alternatively when you click on a person's name and view their profile page, underneath their avatar, there is a option that says, "Ignore this person". Click that link and then click the yes button.

Dave, not problem with me giving your opinion about how dead it is around here. I typically don't say anything since I can't offer a solution to what is happening but I would like to see the site make a turnaround. Things don't last forever but don't give up too quick.

FYI Hellbound has been around here since before I joined in 1998 and had been an avid poster. Like many he hasn't posted much since things have slowed down so much after the last major down period.

                ((((((Mark))))))

You just described the reason why things have slowed down! People lurk instead of post!

If we want to increase the activity on BT, then we need to participate. We need to start new thread topics. We need to respond to threads. All of us need to do these things to inject life into our community.

What would happen if those "many" who don't post much, because it's slow here, started posting?

                The joint would be jumping!

And when visitors peruse BT forums, they will see that it is active and that will encourage them to join.

That's what I meant when I said that it's our responsibility to make BT what we want it to be.

Rose, you are right about needing people to post and respond but each time it is tried it doesn't seem to build any momentum. We just need keep trying and maybe the worm will turn so to speak.

Just ducked in, and hope the "truth patrol doesn't catch me. Doing well, sorry the forum is not. Since my posts seem to cause more trouble than "niceness," I have pretty much tended not to show up here.

                      ((((((Dave))))))

Glad to see you posting and to hear that you are well.

Who are the "truth patrol?" If you are referring to me, that's fine. I feel that I spoke the truth, which is that if people don't post and reply to posts (as you haven't to my post or Mark's post), then no conversation occurs. It's just plain fact.

What "trouble" have your posts caused? Jeannie and Mike asked for your opinions on how to improve BrainTalk. I didn't get upset, just tried to explain why BrainTalk isn't as active as it was in the old days and that it's up to us as members to make it active. We're not going to magically come back to the level of participation we had in those days, if people don't participate.

It's been over 5 months since you posted this thread. That's a lengthy absence, which doesn't lend well to building relationships, without communication. Who knows? Maybe during those 5 months, if you had been posting and participating regularly, more folks would have returned, come out of lurking mode, and new members might have joined.

What's the point of joining, if there is no discussion?

I'm here, because I care about the members of our community, especially my CN family. I'm here to offer support and help to others, and to be a recipient of support and help for my son. I'm here to learn from others' experiences, knowledge, and wisdom. I'm here for friendship and camaraderie.

If those are the same reasons why you are here, then join in the conversations and become more active in the community. No one is pushing you away.

                      Love & Light,

Hey, folks it is none of you people who have posted on this thread that cause any issues here.

You are all fine and good. Well, except for Mark N. That guy...

Anyway -- knew I should not have posted and bragged about doing well.

The very next day I was working on a muddy slope and mucked up my left hip. It is getting better, but you know, for several months I was not having pain from head to toe -- just from neck to finger tips and knees to toes....

Oh, well, again, angel baby Mike, Mark. Have no issues with any of you.
