I have not been on this site for a few years. Have been in and out of hospitals and unable to focus or write much. Had been doing so much better and working hard on a couple of books and back to calling on hospitalized patients. OIt felt good to be back.
Now great concern has dropped it's ugly head in my lap and I need help. Is Steve the Pharm. guy still around? I recalool the name Mark, don't know if it's the same. Also there was a Mrs/ Doubtfyre.
Here's the scoop. Have been on narcotics for about 15 yrs solid, off and on prior to that another 6 to 8 yrs. The issue is, my innards don't seem to be working well after this long term use of opiates. My Gastro Dr. says I need to go off all pain meds ASAP.
My stomach has two very large ulcers, bleeding and I do not use NSAIDS. I did until about a year ago when this same Dr told me under no circumstances NO NSAIDS. I have no way to control my severe arthritis pain at this time. But now he wants me off the pain med. Through the years I have not increased my usage, rather i Titrated down to 180 mgs day of a 24hr med, Not OXY.
I am petrified at the very thought of going off completely. I vividly recall the pain riddled days and nights when I would rock my body back and forth in horrific pain. When I was finally able to settle on the meds that worked and maintain a happy balance and live a life again not just that of a zombie, I was so very happy.
This Dr. says my stomach is paralyzed form yrs of opiate use and doesn't work at all. If I doo not get off meds soon i may be on a feeding tube within a year. I have been having digestive problems for a long time and just now I have gotten someone to listen. But I am freaking out. I am on total soft diet, mostly liquid, get little if any nutrients from food, mostly liquid diet. Or chew and spit I learned from others, but i am not likely to go that route as i think it is disgusting. I have lost 40 lbs since Thanksgiving. Still losing of course.
Help, does anyone have any experience with long term narcotic use? My pancreas is also failing rapidly. Whats so really awfu;l and ironic is that I just recently started to feel really GOOD! Any suggestions or infop would be greatly appreciated.
I do intend to get another GI opinion.
Thank you all, and God Bless You, Hoops
