Keep on moving : October 2021

MS creates some real challenges to keep on moving. It helps to inspire each other on how to find ways to move.

Did you stretch in your bed, swing your arms, roll side to side today? Or perhaps you did housework? Or exercised in a pool? Tracked your count of steps? Chased your cat around the home? Pushed the wheelchair wheels with your arms at the store? Post them here and we can support and egg each other on.

REMEMBER: this is a keep on moving thread, not keep on exercising! Any moving is important it doesnt have to be exercise! Even Science proves that

Thank you for starting this thread, Sunshine!

I've been keeping up with my step counts and hope to post them soon. The first of the month gets busy around here at times, and just now it's been busier than usual.

I've been getting a little more active with the cooler weather. I'm sweeping my patio more often. With the leaves and pine needles coming down, there's a need for more frequent sweeping. I've been doing more carpet-sweeping indoors too. The pine needles get tracked in.

I had my Moderna Booster yesterday morning and it kicked up some of my SPS issues, low grade fever, nausea. Hoping tomorrow is better. No way I will walk today.

Getting the shot is a little more important at this time Sunshine. Knowing you, you'll be back walking in no time.

Yup, I'm betting that everyone here is sure you'll be feeling better in two shakes of a lamb's tail as the saying goes.

I'm not sure what it is about a lamb's tail but do lambs shake their tails particularly fast?

And when you get a booster shot, does a space get filled in on the card you probably got after the first shot(s)? My card has a couple of spaces marked "Other" and I understood that that was for possible boosters. They did say all along that there would probably need to be boosters....

              Sunshine ~

How are you today? I hope that the symptoms have subsided. I asked this in your COVID 19 thread post: Did you have these symptoms after your second dose? Also, how many months between your second dose and this booster shot?

It has only been 2 months and one week since my second dose, so I'm not close to getting a booster.

I checked my vaccination card, and it does have a place for "Other."

As for keeping on moving ~

I've been trying to do better in that regard. Yesterday, when I went out to the curb to bring up my bins to the side yard, I decided to walk to the end of the cul-de-sac, which is only a few houses down from mine. By the time I reached the second house, I turned around and walked home. I needed my strength to drag the bins up my steep driveway.

I am perturbed that I cannot walk the distances I once walked. I need to correct this, but I will have to start out very slowly to work up to even being able to walk around the block. There was a time when I could walk 3-4 miles around the neighborhood. A few years ago, I was able to walk 1 1/2 miles in about 20 minutes.

Today, I gathered up fallen limbs from the tree, refilled Michael's pond, watered the plants and tree in the yard periphery, and reprogrammed my automatic sprinkler system to water only the front yard. I hope it works this time! Hand watering the front yard is just too much for me to handle. Unrolling and recoiling the hoses is a chore for me.

These tasks deplete my energy, so I have to balance yard care with housework. Tomorrow, I tackle cleaning and laundry.

Be well and stay strong everyone!

              Love & Light,

              ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Step count average for September, based on 26 days: 1,375 steps/day, less than the August count, which was 1,467 but not too far off.

Rose, some time ago the podiatrist recommended exactly what you're doing about walking. He cautioned against suddenly deciding to try to walk as much as I used to and instead said to walk a little farther each day and build it up gradually. I can't say that I've actually done that but I should have.

Your list of your activities today is mind-boggling. Hope you're getting some rest in.

Rose, a good days exercise for you.

Agate, your step count is still great. Your average is about the same which is good.

Today I started the afternoon off by going first to pump some gas into my car, then I went to the car wash. I stayed inside the car as it went through the car wash. Next as I was headed to the bank I drove down the street where my Nephew has made an offer on a house. I have been once before on my own and then once when my brother took me down that street to see how pretty it is at night. Then I kept going to the drive thru bank and then of course to the grocery store. I bought only 11 bags of groceries, drove home and made three trips to get them in the house. I put them away and changed my clothes, had supper and washed my face. That's where things stand with me at the moment. I now have to do just a little book work, give my shot and sit down to relax.

As a certain member on here said on chit/chat thread, I am retired and should be able to relax and not have to take care of all these things.

"Only" 11 bags of groceries--well, that's better than the 17 I think you mentioned not so long ago!

Maybe you ask to have them packed light, and then you'd have more of them. I did that when doing real-world grocery shopping. In fact, my helpers wanted the bags packed light as well quite often.

I had these symptoms way before the booster. The booster only have me a low grade fever and a temporary flare up of Neuro symptoms of getting "the Willies" for a day.

SPS is a progressive disease, it is just frustrating.

I did take 500 steps today

Perhaps I should have phrased my question differently ~ did you have the same reaction to the vaccine after your second dose, i.e., fever, nausea? I'm curious as to whether people have the same response to the booster as they did with their second dose.

                              Definitely, 500 steps is progress!

                              agate ~

As always, your step count is terrific!

Any kind of exercise requires working up to a certain level. When I first started walking 14 years ago, I was overweight and had high blood pressure. I started by walking around the block. When I approached John's parents' house, his mom was watering flowers in the front yard. She asked me where I was going, and I replied, "Home, if I can make it!"

I kept at it every morning, and it became a routine. I met so many of my neighbors and their pets and saw all the wildlife. I lost weight and got my BP in the right range. When I would get home, Jim would ask me about my walk, so he knew about all of our neighbors' lives through me.

Unfortunately, I was never able to coax him into walking (of course, we couldn't walk together, because one of us had to stay with Jon). Instead, he wanted a treadmill, which he used a few times and still sits in our garage.

                              Virginia ~

Oh my! Eleven bags of groceries! It wears me out to even think of carrying those bags upstairs and into the house.

It will be nice, when your nephew moves in, and you can visit him.

                              Let's all keep moving!
