    My cousin's epilepsy was absent any seizures. He would just kind of not know what was going on for several minutes. It started while he was in college. He went on to work until retirement age. He was a school teacher and when he retired from that he started going to farms in the south of this state and advocating for the migrant workers. Both he and his wife spoke Spanish as well as they did English. It was interesting to be in a group with them and they would start having a discussion in Spanish if they wanted to say something private.

      Those "absent" spells were probably the seizures. I've heard of this form of epilepsy,and my mother's father may have had it though it went undiagnosed. At that time it might not yet have been identified. He was known for having "staring" spells when he just wouldn't be "there." He would be staring into nowhere and unresponsive. I never knew him but heard about the way he was. They're called absence seizures according to this:
