    I've added more herbs this time, and a shepherd's pie mix. The mix was the only lamb based one they had. I'm also adjusting the cooking time. Have just been listing best before/.use by dates. That helps to minimise wastage.
    Yet inside there is this perpetual nagging doubt;
    the feeling we are possessed by a 'subtle lack of togetherness''.

      Guess I'm not awake enough yet but I don't understand about listing the best before/use by dates. I do know about those dates but wonder how or where you list them. Hope you don't mind the question but I have been dealing with those best before/use by dates for some time and wondering how useful they are.

        I make a written list. I started doing so after having chucked out food that had gone past its use by date. Food past its use by date isn’t safe to eat.

          Rules may be different in the UK. Around here we're told that the food labels don't have anything to do with food safety, just food quality. We're told we can keep using food that is past its "use by," "best by," "sell by," or "freeze by" date so long as it shows no signs of spoilage.

          If you don't trust your eyes and nose for some reason (like aging in my case), you might be well advised to pay closer attention to those labels, it seems to me. Better safe than sorry, etc.
