I wrecked my wonderful ramp van tonight

:) Hi everyone. I promise soon I will have some good news to report. Surely i've had the three things are supposed to come in.

About 6:30 tonight I was headed north on Jog Road and an elderly man pulled out in front of me without looking. I swerved to the left to try to avoid hitting him but he was too far out and still moving. His car is totaled and my front right fender, headlight, etc. are damaged. I had on a seat belt and both air bags deployed but that tore up the whole dash.

I hit my right thumb on something and my left knee hit something so it has a big bruise. My friend Billy who is painting my house was going to meet me at Duffy's for dinner then we were going to Home Depot to get some wood to replace the rotting places on the utility building before it is painted. A man who saw the whole thing told the sheriff that there was no way I could have avoided him.

The sheriff helped my friend load my scooter and stuff out of the van into his car and my son met us at the house and helped unload it. I cannot do anything until the adjuster on Monday morning. I will have to cancel a doctor appointment Mon AM too. I told the insurance I do not want my van totaled as it is to expensive to replace the ramp system. I do not think that part got any damage. The wrecker started it and drove it onto the ramp of the wrecker. The front passenger door would not open very far because of the front fender being bent.

The man was not hurt but was shaken up and I was too for a few minutes. Those airbags pack a scary punch but probably kept me from being injured badly. The paramedics checked us both out.
I will rent a ramp van until I can get mine back. My insurance only pays $15 a day, but they said his insurance would have to give me a comparable vehicle to what I had so that may make it easier. I hope it can be fixed soon.

Please say some prayers for me that it will be fixed soon and not cost me a lot. Thanks, Jeanie :)

At least nobody was hurt! But you must be badly shaken up.

Jeanie, glad that no one was hurt seriously. When it rains it pours. Get after the insurance company. It is funny that they can suddenly "remember" that you have a certain coverage. I have to remind myself that the adjuster is not your friend. His/her job is to pay the least amount possible and to take as long as possible doing it. I know, I know all the insurance folks are going to jump out of the shadows and shake big sticks at me. But it is what it is.

We have had a couple days of rain almost 3/4 of an inch. Considering we only average 12 inches a year. But the bad thing is we are almost 3 inches behing where we should be. We really need a lot of snow in the mountains this winter to get enough melt next spring. Quite a bit of irrigation has already been shut off this year. We irrigate out of the Snake River so unless it quits flowing we are not impacted much. We have 60 acres next to the house that is in pinto beans the neighbor cut them to complete the drying before thy can be combined he has turned them once already and being dry beans I doubt that they can be turned again and they are soaked.

Since I was so busy with the new house I did not haul the manure from our dairy this spring so now we have a couple mountains of it. We have a good friend that has a huge onion growing operation and he makes compost so he loans us a dump truck and takes all we can haul. It is about 6 miles round trip to his processing area. I guess that there is at least 10 truck loads. I have even used his giant loader but I have to load it on his semi chain it down and drive it down here. I just cant handle the 13 speed transmission anymore. Since I am the only one with a CDL and his dump trucks are 10 wheelers I have to drive. I keep telling my wife that it is just like her school bus but she says she has forgotten how to drive a stick shift. Ha ha. She started her 28th year being a bus driver. She now has grandkids of kids that she hauled as kindergarteners.

I finally installed the shelf units for my wife's sewing palace. It has only taken 3 months. In the new house we built an extra room 14X18 for her different crafts I even put in a deep sink. I did add a closet so it can be considered a bedroom. And yes there is a recliner, TV tray and a lamp for me I mounted a flat screen on a swivel on the wall so there is satellite TV and when she is working I can sit in and supervise.

Time to go on my daily prowl I might even finish cleaning the shop. I am working towards having a shop for mechanical things cars, tractors, welding, etc. Now you have to stand on junk to get to the lathe. And I have plans to build a woodworking shop I have sawdust all over the welding equipment. I am making things more accessible. Like most farmers we try to be self sufficient every time you have to take something to town to get it fixed you plan on a wheelbarrow of $$ and one big breakdown can ruin you. So we fix it ourselves. The only downside is everyone stops by and says "hey do you thing you can look at my (insert almost anything) and see if you can figure out what is wrong?"

Yeah I have a problem saying no.

After the fire my daughter said "dad you have been dragging other peoples stuff down here and fixing it for free all my life, now you need to ask THEM for help!!"
