    OT August chit chat 2

The first one was getting long, 9 pages, so I'm starting a new one, and dedicate it to Peg.

What a day it's been. TOTALLY crashed my computer today, and scared myself thinking it was ruined. I couldn't watch a DVD, couldn't watch videos online, and pretty much EVERYTHING was acting strange.

So I went to the search engine, my new friend, and looked for an answer.

I looked at a few sites, and then one said, turn it off and it will reboot. The end of this tragic tale is, I'M BACK!!!

Computers....can't live with them, can't live without.

I hope everyone had a great day!

Turning off the computer and letting it have a time-out has saved me many times. Another lifesaver is clearing the cache.

Is a cache where it shows all the sites you have been to? If so, I do that several times a day. If not.....help!

Jeanie, Sorry to hear about your friend.

It's been a busy month for me. 45th class reunion. Two lunches with some of the classmates: one the Monday after the reunion, the other next week. A car show. A funeral. Cat's celebration of life. Help son with paperwork. A "Taste of ............" (and community night) event. Shopping for presents. Husband's Driving Road Test. Church picnic. Social at local history museum.

By the way, what is with this program tonight? It doesn't pick up all the keystrokes? I have to go back and insert missing letters and spaces (and other times it does insert the missing ones). When I type in Word I have no problem. And I cant copy and paste from Word. Then it doesn't always post but asksif I wnt to leave the page when I click to submit.

Testing to see if the keystrokes have a problem. So far no problem that I can see.

Testing by copying and pasting a message in Word

Parsi, I haven't had a problem. I just tried (see above).

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Maybe your browser is having a problem?

Howie, I'm not sure we're talking about the same thing but the effect may be the same. I'm using Google Chrome, not Internet Explorer, but both of them have ways of clearing the cache.

In Internet Explorer I remember it's under Internet Tools, and you find it up there on the top of the page. It's very similar in Google Chrome--find Tools, then Clear Browsing Data. if you go to that, Cached Images and Files has a checkmark by it. There are other things you can clear if you check them but I usually don't do that because it's all too easy to erase automatic log-ins for sites you visit, and then you have to log in all over again everywhere.

If you click on Clear Browsing Data then, it will start clearing unnecessary stored images and files from your Internet browser. You can watch this happening. The longer it takes, the worse the situation probably was.

I don't do this several times a day--more like once every week or two. It speeds everything up to get the cache cleared.

Every Website you visit stores images and files, and these pile up. You might as well delete them because you'll never miss them.

Edited to add: This gives a rundown on how to clear the cache in several types of browsers:

Yup. turn it off, wait, reboot.
With a mac I have not yet had to do that.

I've been using Startpage to do searches.
My searches don't leave the trail Google, etc. does and
I have less crup for invasive sites to follow.

I miss my super simple WebTV. It did everything this computer does except maybe video....and problems like I had yesterday. But I'm learning this computer, and I like it being mobile. (laptop)

I guess there are incompatibility issues with something on my laptop and Braintalk then

You could try asking in the Feedback forum. There may be people with similar problems.

You're welcome Peg! Agate, I did find my cache. It wasn't what I thought it was. Thanks for your help. It's running great now.

I don't think I could survive without central air. As you noted, peg, ms symptoms flare up in the heat and humidity. We ha e central air and a ceiling fan in the bedroom and sometimes I'm still too warm.

I just assumed my keyboard had a glitch that eventually fixed itself...but maybe not. I thought I erased everything, not just history, so I'm not sure if mine is a cache problem, but I'll have to look around too and figure out what exactly a cache is too.

Wow, I'm dizzy. I just signed up for Google Chrome. That was so hard to do.

I did the phone verification, and forgot, and tried to write right handed. Well, I couldn't read it to verify myself. So I got them to call again, and had the pen in my left hand, my new writing hand. Well, this time, my pen fell apart, and I got lost again, no memory.

So FINALLY, I called in again, new pen in the left hand, and FINALLY got it done.
