    It's too quiet.....I CAN'T TAKE IT!!!!!

    Oh, sorry for the outburst.

I live alone, well, with my two great cats, but they come up short on conversation. I've had all the meow, meow, meow, I can take on a Friday night. SOMEONE say something, then poor Howie can join in. I know, let's talk about...uh...LITTER BOXES!!!

Litter boxes--hmm. There are cats who get trained to use the human toilet instead. I've never tried to train a cat to do this but it is possible.

I knew a girl when I was a little guy, that had a cat that used the toilet. I'm not sure I would like that. I can see me pounding on the door....AREN'T YOU DONE YET?

          Question: Landlord Responsibility

Is it correct for one's landlord to mandate tenant responsibility for cleaning
an appliance space when landlord is replacing appliances?
Old appliance pulled from wall area, tenant cleans, old appliance removed
and new installed. In 2 hour period.
$25/hour for cleaning if tenant does not comply.
Sounds like [B]B[B]lue [B]S[B]hield to me- particularly for the wheelchair bound.

This really bites for working tenants, too.

Yes, Agate, in two years I apply to live in a better environment.
Waiting list is up to 6 months.
6 months would be a breeze.

Will call Satan Central on monday w/out mentioning federal law
and press the compassion button so Beelzebub thinks he's getting
          points for niceness.

Howie, do you really not get it?

That policy about cleaning sounds unfair to me but since landlords can pretty much do whatever they want, it may very well be legal.

Or it might be some maintenance person's scheme for making a few extra dollars.

You could try asking where in the lease it says that they can do this.

generally the inside of the apartment is the tenants responsibility -- so yes, unless specified in the lease (and it would be unusual to have such a clause in there as appliances wouldn't be changed for every tenant) it is your responsibility. do you have someone now who comes to clean for you? could they help with this? or a friendly neighbor? you could ask the landlord for help but youll not find anything in the federal law about this either except veru broadly, may, under the "reasonable accommodation"
              clause.

A plea to your Landlord's, "woman in distress', good side, could be your answer.
                Good luck with that.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ANN AND PIZZA GUY.
I still believe in happily ever after.

                    ----------------------------------------------
                    Cat et al-

Reasonable acommodation will be my call.
I hate bringing in any legalese.
Management doesn't like to follow the law unless it serves their $$ interests.
They made national news and congressional protest for misuse of HUD money
(and general lack of moral integrity).

A local man following the map of corruption made a request for documents concerning
bidding on projects. After 3-5 months his lawyer received a large carton of 98%
irrelevant paper. My landlord may have included some restaurant take-out menus.

Good citizen is going to civil court in response to payment demands for the non-documents and expensive shipping.
Landlords have an extra lawyer on payroll (nepotism) probably to cover imminent lawsuits.

The city nor our feckless and arrogant board of trustees has taken action.
HUD seems to be blind, deaf, dumb.
                    It's very seedy.

I do not have a cleaning help (po' folk, you know), my friends work during the day and my neighbors,
besides being people you don't want in your house, are not helpful.
                    Etc.

                    Trashy scene.
Good for comedy but trashy language is no go on this board.

renee, it sounds as if you would be expected to do the cleanup in 2 hours, on their time schedule. It's exactly the kind of thing I'd have big problems with. I can't meet deadlines. I have to do jobs slowly at my own pace if I can do them at all.

Somebody with MS has lots of different problems demanding reasonable accommodation if you ask me.

Sounds as if a different HUD building might be a good idea for you. I think you mentioned possibly moving to a better situation soon? Hope that materializes.

For many years I was in a HUD building that had problems with an indifferent and downright obnoxious management company in charge. In fact for some years the building was listed on HUD's Website as a "troubled building." Not sure what that meant but I agree that it was.

I've moved to a much better managed HUD building. It's such a different scene. The place is kept clean. Even the laundry room is positively pleasant. No mice or other pests except for some tiny ants that are a problem in this general neighborhood. And they wouldn't expect us to clean under an appliance on such short notice.

You could try appealing to the local chapter of the MS Society for possible help. They can have some surprising resources sometimes.

So you have had the experience, Agate.
I don't think there is room for 2 major appliances and me
in the kitchen at the same time.

The other building is like an 18th century insane asylum in
late sixties cinderblock and hospital flooring.

People wandering around talking to themselves in early stages of dementia.
Glassy-eyed thirty or forty somethings adhering to their meds.
Bingo games, tv game shows blaring in the community room.

Signs telling the residents they may not congregate in the community room
                        for birthday celebrations.
                        No pets without doctor script.

In two years I can apply to the smoke free, name your pet, 62+ apts with
entirely different truly non-profit management. My garden is on the grounds. Grin.
My sense of forgiveness and goodwill has maxxed out.

It will be a very nice change.

Renee, you know you and I are very close to the same age.....30. I LOVE reading your posts.

Here I am at this outrageous hour. Why you ask? Well, I just woke up. My two fur buddies are right here too, but I took a sleeping pill, so WE will all go back to bed soon.

                          Good night.....I mean, Good Morning!

Hi I was going thru some old papers and came across some printouts from Braintalk, haven't been here for years. I am pleased to see a lot of names I recognize. Jeannie, Cherie can't believe it's been almost 10 years since we met in Florida.
