(OT) Good cat news for now!

Cassie is still alive and home! She got rehydrated, got a shot of antibiotics, got a shot of the equivalent of aspirin for cats, and sent home. Where, my husband says, she drank some water, ate a bit of food, and, when he called me, was sitting on the floor busily licking off all the "icky vet smells" from her fur. Tuffy (who was not nearly as sick as she was), also got a shot of antibiotics. They both will get some anti- diarrhea powder sprinkled on their food every morning. Cassie will have to go back to the vet in the morning to get a blood draw. The vet says she could have diabetes, or could have a thyroid problem....or it could just be that both she and Tuffy got "cat flu", and she just got sicker. I know there is not a lot that can be done for the diabetes, but I don't know about thyroid issues in cats. We will have to see about that when the time comes. But for now, they're both alive and home.

As for me, I'll still in the nursing home. I have gotten rid of the picc line (iv in my arm). So one less machine to drag around. Tomorrow I go to the wound clinic and ostomy clinic (same place, one after the other). The medical equipment guy was here, knows what I need, and will do his best to get a lift to us by Friday. Still waiting on word that visiting nurses are set up, and that I have a wound vac ready for me (this one is technically owned by the nursing home). Bottom line: lots of little deals to work out, but expected release date is Friday. Looks like I'll still have four furkids to greet me when I get home. Yeah!!!!

      Great news Cat!!!

My brother had a cat that became diabetic, and my brother had to give him a daily shot. The cat would actually start purring when he got a shot that shows it truly made him feel better. When he finally passed, my brother could tell you exactly how many shots he had administered.

        ((((((Cat)))))) ~

Wonderful news about Cassie and Tuffy. May they continue to improve.

Two more days of patiently waiting, while all of your ducks are getting lined up. Glad the PICC line is gone. You're getting closer to home!

So glad to hear this piece of good news about the cats. I know that lifted your spirits and Tom Cat's also. He may have been feeling a little overwhelmed, which is understandable, with wife in the nursing home and two little ones so sick.

              Now for Friday!

I'm relieved to hear your furkids are okay. Neither you nor TC needed the stress.
Even when nothing else is wrong, dehydration can make you sick. So either it caused the problem or was caused by the problem. Either way, they are now out of immediate danger. You can all take a deep breath.

That's a relief about the cats. Worry about a sick pet is a particularly draining kind of worry, I think.

I hate worrying about pets so much that I once took a pet first aid course at the local humane society. It was very useful.

I often found the skin turgor test to be helpful in figuring out how dehydrated a cat is, and we learned how to do CPR on a dog or cat, and what things are poisonous, etc.

I'm glad Cassie is making a comeback. It's amazing how fast they can bounce back with the right care. I don't blame her for wanting to get rid of icky vet smells. Wash that man right out of your hair, Cassie!

Really relieved for you, cat, that must have been weighing on your mind.

Let's hope Friday is the big day!

I think we worry about the pets so much because we feel so totally responsible for them, and like kids, they can't tell us if they're feeling ill. Cats in particular seem to be stoic little beasts, often hiding just how poorly they feel until its almost too late. And of course for folks like me who have no human kids, the furkids in particular become our kids. They eat with us, sleep with us, sit on our table, eat off our plate ( I can hear all the " eeuwwww"as from here), become part of our lives. So we do become frantic when they're sick, or hurt. And devastated when they die. Don't ever say "it's just a pet!" To someone like Tom Cat and me; you'll quickly find yourself on our "dislike" list......forever.
