Barn owls are the funniest looking creatures, aren't they?

I agree, Vicky, their markings are very beautiful.

Chick #3 has now hatched, haven't seen it yet.

Here's mom and dad sharing a bonding moment.

Nature on PBS tonight was about owls in general and 2 barn owls, Luna & Lily, in specific.

I happened in on a PBS program about pygmy owls the other day and was fascinated. I think of owls as being fairly large birds but the pygmy owl is tiny:

              SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Sal, if the forum happened to send you something, would you like an owl of your own?

It makes me sad when I see wild animals being kept as pets.

Or those that should be wild anyhow.

Pygmy owls are so cute. My brother had one that he bought at a pet store when we were kids. Hopefully, you can't own them now. I just remember he used to buy live mice to feed it. I hated that and just stayed away! Of course it died . . . they should not be kept in captivity! Birds are meant to be free IMHO!

Here is a live condor cam with a chick. If you scroll down, there are a couple of videos including one Q & A session where you learn about the condor program and interesting things about condors. Did you know that they lay only one egg per season? No wonder there are so few around!

I'm still watching the skies for a condor. The Ventana/Big Sur release area is not that far away, plus some were recently released in the San Simeon/Cambria area which is even closer to me.

Lol, Ann, that's all Sally needs is an owl constantly asking her "who who". That would drive anyone up the wall!

These are pretty ground nesting birds - lots of them. Many of them seem to be doing a kind of mating head bobbing/dance. Some are sitting on nests. I've never seen these before. You have to look at all these nest cams at night, which is daytime over there.

Don't know if we have any stork eggs yet, but mom or dad is staying put, so maybe.

This is some kind of long billed ground nesting bird (cam 1 shows moving water, cam 2 is where I saw this bird in a large field of grass). never seen these before either!
