I started out playing the violin in school. I taught myself the guitar but just played for my own enjoyment. Like you I played along with my favorite songs. Found it very relaxing.

MS caused me to change from a full sized guitar to a 3/4 sized guitar but after awhile I still couldn't push down on the strings properly which makes playing chords hard if not impossible.

I have a harmonica maybe I should give that a try and see how it turns out. When I'm alone and can't bother Curt. HA!
I don't know much about guitars except that my son played both an electric and an acoustic guitar in some bands for a while, and it looked to me as if the electric guitar takes less arm and hand effort than the acoustic guitar.

I know there are acoustic guitar players who wouldn't go near an electric--the sound is so very different--and so I hope this idea doesn't seem preposterous to you but I was wondering if you've tried an electric? Or maybe it's an electric you now have, and even then you're having problems?

You're right--the voice is an instrument. I used to sing too though mine was never a solo-quality voice. I was just one of the people holding up the alto section in some choruses and choirs. I can hardly carry a tune any more, and my voice quality is raspy and hoarse. I still try.

As a matter of fact I had an electric guitar too. My very first guitar was a little starter acoustic guitar my mom got me. My second was an electric guitar given to me by a friend. Then I switched to an acoustic. Right now I don't think it would make much of a difference. The 3/4 size is easiest to play but I am so rusty it distracts me from practicing and of course it is also tiring.

Some things can be done in small segments--maybe practicing a guitar could be like that? Once you get yourself set up with your guitar in tune and whatever other things you need around you, it's probably hard to just leave that whole set-up there and take a rest, then come back later for another 10 minutes or so, but it might be a way.

Yep you are right. I will just have to take it in small increments maybe I won't sound so bad to myself. LOL
