Yes. I also don't have a headboard. I'll see if I can find it again.

Yours were exactly right too, Vicky!

Sally, can you start to lift things with weight, something like a can of beans to start with, to build muscle up. I just don't get why the staff does so little to improve muscle function. It doesn't take a PT or OT to do it! It just takes someone acting like a human being to help out.

Can you lie on your stomach and push up with your arms?... even if you can't do a push up, it builds muscle mass...

It's good you're swinging your arms and legs. Now find a way to create resistance. Like, for example, lay on your back, bend your legs if you can at the knee, and then push against the mattress with your feet to try to lift up your pelvis off the mattress. That type of thing.

I wish I could help you.

This won't help anyone, but I don't have a headboard on my bed either. My bed is 2 mattresses, one on the other, and they sit on the floor, no bedframe. It sits against a wall, the foot of the bed, pointing towards the TVs. (2 for different things)

For a headboard, I cut the a large piece of a dense, black sound insulating foam I had from doing Pinky's interior. I cut it into an interesting shape like the old antique boards you see, decorative squares and cubes around the edges.

I had fun doing it and it turned out well.

Just a thought, but I was thinking this one might be a possibility?

I like that one. An aide could hold your upper torso forward, then slip it in behind you, and your butt doesn't have to be lifted too. That one gets my vote!

It does look like a good one, but I know about as much about things like that as I do about computers, so sorry Sally maybe you better ignore me.

The unfortunate thing is that the person who would know the most about this with the most experience is... a physiotherapist.

Very definitely. Someone needs to assess the bed and Sally's own capabilities to get this right but it does seem to be possible.

I'm not familiar with air mattresses and so can't offer any useful suggestions but I have no doubt that a way for Sally to sit up in bed can be found.

--Unless that's the way air mattresses just are? You're not supposed to be able to sit up in bed in them?
