We're not allowed to line our ovens (or burner pans) with foil in this building. I wouldn't line a toaster oven with anything either, just to be on the safe side.

Rinsing off the crumb tray now and then isn't a hard chore, really. Or at least I don't think it is. If you have a lot of spills and they burn on, it could be a real pain.

Yes, scrambled eggs in the microwave: small.bowl that is twice the depth of the eggs (they will.puff up twice their size while cooking). Butter the bowl. Crack in two eggs. Beat well with fork. Zap for 2 minutes ( time may vary depending on your micro. Pull out. Salt, pepper if you like. Eat from bowl if you wish.

A new toaster oven doesn't cost much. Target has one at a very reasonable price.

Microwave ovens are pretty cheap, too. Lots of small ones for less than $100, some in the $50 range. We paid over $300 for our first one, bought many many years ago.

I went to the store a while ago, and even remembered parchment paper, but I didn't get any. I didn't like the idea of it in a toaster oven. So I'll just use it to heat non buttered bread, nothing else.

It does look very clean now. I even scrubbed the glass door with steel wool, and it's clear now instead of brown.

And I THINK I'm getting my new coffee maker tomorrow. Amazon has changed the arrival date which is fine with me. I'm using that little one now, and I just finished my first mug, and want another, so I have to do all the preparation work AGAIN!

My new coffee maker is a 12 cup one. I can't wait!!!

Whenever I had to move anything heavy across the floor, I'd use my scooter and push it!

Thanks Cat for telling me how to fix eggs in the microwave. I have been getting out pans and having to wash them all this time.

Agate, I put foil under the burners in an oven one time and someone told me I should not do that. They said it would burn the coils out much faster. That might be the reason your place does not want you doing that where you live.

I hadn't heard that about the coils burning out faster. I thought it was a fire hazard if you lined burner pans with foil, and if you read the link SuzE-Q posted, foil can catch fire though it would have to be very very hot to do that. Hotter than most burners probably get.

I thought she was talking about tin foil, which I thought was different.

What we call tin foil is the same as aluminum foil, Reynolds wrap being the common brand folks are familiar with. If it touches hot coils it can flare up and if you see it flaring and rush to pull the pan out of the oven, pieces of burning foil can float away, settle, and start a fire. Or if you leave it in the oven, burning, the fumes are noxious.

Parchment paper is paper -- it's not intended to be in contact with open flames or hot coils. Depending on what you're using it for, it can be used a couple of times (if I'm baking cookies I can usually get 4-5 uses out of it) before it gets brittle and pieces start to flake off, at which time it needs to be replaced.

By the way, either side of the foil can be used. The shiny side doesn't reflect heat and differently than the dull side, one side isn't "safer" than the other. It's just the way the foil is rolled as it is manufactured, that one side gets polished, one side doesn't.

I never heard of foil catching fire. Wow, scar stuff!

Sally, I wasn't sure about it either, so I looked it up online. I was going to put it on the bottom of the toaster, but not now. What do I do with this roll of foil now? I bought it just for that!

Howie, if you want to store something in the fridge or maybe in your kitchen cabinet you can now wrap it in aluminum foil.

Store food in the fridge. Especially good for smelly things like onions. Squash a piece onto an opened bottle, can, or jar: instant lid. Squash a piece into a ball and toss it to your cats. They'll love it. If you roast something in the oven, use it to line your roasting pan. Wrap a piece of fish in it...include some onion , maybe some dill, a splash of lemon juice. Wrap tight, put n oven at 350 for 20 minutes or so...supper. cover over the top of meat if it's browning too quickly in the oven. Or around the edges of a pie to keep the edges from Browning too quickly. Wrap irregularly shaped gifts. Stuff into crack in a window frame for a temporary seal.
