    A wheelchair for $12,500

    Here's a wheelchair that I for one wouldn't like.

Aside from its cost ($12,500) I don't think I'd find it useful. It looks large, and it seems to have no armrests, just for starters.

    Same here, Joan. No thanks!

Always thought Segways were for walkers.

The Segway that got quite a bit of publicity some years ago is for those who walk. It's basically just a stick (with handlebars) on wheels, with a bit of space for your feet. I've never been on one but have watched videos of them.

There were some safety concerns about that Segway, and I wonder about safety with the wheelchair too. Some people will be in danger of sliding off the side, it seems to me. People with numbness, for instance.

This looks to be a version of the popular Segway, modified for wheelchair users:

From the photos of this wheelchair, it appears to be intended for outdoor use, particularly for rough terrain. It might appeal to w/c users who want to hike or camp.

That's more than an Elio which is gas powered, and street legal, a 3 wheeled car.

It's not for me - first I would have to climb up on it and then I would have to try and stay on it without falling off. I would be better off riding one of Peg's horses. Well, if someone put me on Peg's horse and tied me to it!

I have a HoverounD, and it has a seatbelt if you feel you need it.

Virginia, getting in and out of it looks like a project even though they say it has a "detachable steering column for ease of transfer."

Howie, the Elio link wouldn't work for me, I'm told that "eliomotors.com uses an unsupported protocol." But I found a Wikipedia entry about it:

It's considered a motorcycle? And it's not on the market yet? I guess it runs on gas rather than the driver pedalling it like a kid's trike. Looks as if more than one person might fit into it too.

That is one ugly car. If I was going to spend that much I'd want something far more attractive!

Sorry the link didn't work for you Agate, but what you found has some good shots of it. Unlike that gas hog driving Vicky, I like the look of it. It does hold 2, but you sit facing the back of the person in the front seat. Like some of the modern 2 seated aircraft.

Ever see the movie Brazil? I shows a German car made just after WW2 that looks like the Elio. It was made by the company in Germany that made fighter planes.
Messerschmitt was the name of the company, and how I spelled that correctly, I don't know.

I would buy an Elio in a second, but I can't afford it even at that LOW price.

I can't imagine even trying to get into a vehicle like that. I wish I could still drive. Too risky though.

What we have is an old PT Cruiser I have trouble climbing into as it is. I have to have room for my cane. Lenny has to have room to take stuff to work with him.

Time to quit while you're ahead mister TWO gas guzzlers!

I'd get one. Great for off road use, like in my prairie...although no arm support is a problem...

Cat, I had to look up Prairie. They have a big selection. Which model do you have?

10 acres, native Wisconsin prairie (restored). 15 or so native grasses, 35 wildflowers species, some sedges, bordered by 5 acres of oak woods,,a small pond which is home to lots,of turtles. An heirloom apple tree, a pear tree, a Fox den. A herd of raccoons. Two momma deer and their 3 fawns --one had twins. Two bucks, one with magnificent antlers, the other a yearling. An occasional visit by a black bear.

Our house sits on the top of the hill overlooking the prairie, which is bordered by woods at the bottom of the hill and along one side. We own the 15 acres, restored the prairie. Started with 22 acres; sold off the 7 to a friend to build their retirement home. They've got a 3 acre prairie which we also restored.
