    MS muscle cramps

The worst part of MS for me is the horrible shin toe and feet cramps. So painful and limiting. I don't want to do Baclofen if possible due to SEs. Right now I am sidelined by it. Dang.

Florida passed a medical marijuana law. There is a type with low THC so you don't get high. I do not want to get high, it's just not my thing..I don't even drink alcohol.

Who else here gets these cramps?

    Any comments are welcome.

I get quite a few cramps--mostly in the shin but sometimes the foot or toe or thigh. They don't last more than about 10 minutes but it's a painful 10 minutes and almost always in the middle of the night.
    SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Do you have any knowledge that MJ can help with cramps?

As a kid, I used to get cramps in my legs that was from just overdoing it. I was a very active kid. Do you think the surfing for too long may be overworking the muscles?

I hope you get past this, cramps hurt so bad.

Yes, if I surf too long I get into bad trouble.

Haven't surfed since Sunday. Today I committed the unpardonable sin of grocery shopping for ten minutes, getting into a hot car and then Getting home and carrying about 20 lbs of groceries upstairs all at once, that was the straw that broke the camels back.ridiculous

I think if we knew it was only gonna last ten minutes, no big deal. But while it's happening there is the anxiety about not knowing when it will let up.

Have you been tested for diabetes? High sugar can cause cramps and pain in feet.

BBS, I do have cramps some and use to have them more often than lately. I am like you about the anxiety of not knowing if and when they will go away.

My latest thing is the feeling of pulling around the left side of my mouth.

The cramps I got as a kid were in the calves of my legs. They always hit as I was already asleep. What a way to wakeup. My toes and foot would point straight down, like a ballerina looks dancing on her toes.

To stop it, I would take the front of my foot, and pressing on the floor, would force my foot to get back into a normal position. As soon as I did, the cramp would stop. Maybe 30 seconds total, but it was a LONG 30 seconds! As I got older, I stopped having them.

The "cure" for a cramp in my shin is to straighten the leg out (not always possible) and then keep pulling the foot toward the rest of me. This usually can't be done at all at first because the cramp is crippling but if I keep working at it I can often get rid of the cramp.

Yes, it takes a while and it seems like forever!

Muscle cramps are part of my regular life. Foot, ankle calf, thigh, bladder. Ditropan helps, but does not relieve them entirely. Botox in the bladder helps tremendously, but that has to be repeated every 6 to 12 months or so

Virginia, pulling around one side of your mouth just might be caused by a dental problem you didn't know you had.

I don't know how many weird symptoms of mine in or around the mouth/jaw/neck and even eyes have cleared up once a dental problem was taken care of--a broken or chipped tooth, a filling that was missing, an abscess.

                          Just a thought.

Makes sense.we have such finely tuned bodies that if something is a bit off, the whole house of cards caves in.

Or maybe it's that if we can't feel pain but there's a situation where ordinarily we'd be feeling pain, our body sends us other signals to let us know something's going haywire.

My jaw and face are numb--luckily not totally numb but numb enough so I often don't need an anesthetic at the dentist's when other people would.

If there's a dental problem that would cause pain, I don't get the pain. Instead I get weird symptoms in that general area.

I've often heard that animals don't get MS but they seem to have odd pain reactions.

My cat Phoebe suddenly developed a tremor in her lower jaw. It was a pretty fast tremor but it came and went, each one lasting a few seconds but happening a few minutes apart.

I mentioned it to the vet but she wasn't having it at the time, and the vet was looking puzzled about it, but then she obligingly had another episode so the vet did see it.

It was said to be a reaction to pain. Phoebe had an infected tooth, and when it was treated, the symptom went away.

I had the impression that the vet hadn't ever seen this before but that they recognized it as something that easily could happen in a cat.
