They can't tell us when they have a toothache but cats and dogs do get infected teeth. They need to have teeth pulled sometimes. I haven't heard of dentures for cats or dogs though.

I have been getting them for several years. It really felt like my toes were curled under. Created large sores between toes because the cramps distorted position.
After years of not realizing they were spasms I actually looked at them when they were cramping and was shocked to see the toes were out straight. The muscles were cramping but it did not look as if they were.
I started using the baclofen I have had for years. Shocked that my toes straightened out! At least it felt that way. Now I use baclofen whenever I am cramping....not regularly.
This may be different from what you experience. I have severe cramping in toes, legs, hands.

Linda, I think SEs are side effects.
Yes, toes can be so weird. Sometimes when I take my shoes and socks off, all my toes are standing straight up, perpendicular to the feet. I never know this is going on unless I look, though. I don't often get any pain in the toes.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Moving them is good.
Trying to stretch them sideways seems helpful, or at least I've seen that recommended by a number of exercise programs. Also moving all your toes up as far as you can and then down as far as you can (trying to curl them under as if you're trying to pick up something with them).
I have to keep remembering to do this during the day.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Sally, I quite often wake up with my heels hurting. Sometime one and sometime both. I have to turn my feet sideways to get away from it. I looked it up on internet, but now can not remember what the cause or causes might be, but by all means keep moving your feet.
Don't know why the duplicate post or the picture of the master bath - it is not mine!Last edited by Virginia; 07-26-2016, 09:40 AM.Virginia

I was reminded of something the podiatrist told me about though I turned out to have something else causing my heel pain--plantar fasciitis:

Agate, that is what I first thought, but my pain is when I am in bed and have my heels touching the bed for an extended period of time, and not when I put them on the floor. Therefore, I ruled that pretty much out for me. It still could be, but there was something else I found that sounded like me. When I get some time I will try to find it again. Sally might have this.
By the way, the picture was something that I saw on my post while my computer was broke. It just came up at the end of the post and I could open it. Also, while the computer was broke I could not find where the first post went through. Glad to have that out of the way.Virginia

If you have unusual bumps on the back of your heels, it could be Hagland's deformity AKA "pump bumps." That was another possible diagnosis that was being considered when I had heel pain like that. When I did a Google search for photos of that condition, my feet don't have those bumps.
The pain got better when I got better fitting shoes.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

I was told that when I was lying in bed, predominately on my back so that the heels would be resting on the bed, that I should put a soft pillow or rolled towel under my legs, with the heels hanging over the edge of the towel, so they do Not touch the bed. Pressure sores on heels are pretty common..and as hard to treat as pressure sores on the butt. The lambswool socks are another good option....I am not a doctor nor medical professional, and don't pretend to be one, here... :o
