Cindy, our matriarch cat, 16-1/2 years old, passed over the Rainbow Bridge this morning. The dear girl had diabetes for the last 2 or more years. She had been doing OK on a special diet for these last years...but over the last week lost nearly two pounds of weight, was hanging over her water dish, and when we woke up this morning, she was too weak to even get up on all four legs.
Cindy had a rough start in life. She was born in 2000, and at 1-1/2 years old, some savages otherwise known as teenagers threw her into a bonfire. One of them then reconsidered, pulled her from the flames, and dropped her at the door of a vet. She was pregnant. While recovering from her wounds she gave birth to 5 kittens, only one of which survived. We found her and her daughter in the animal shelter in 2003. Several other folks had said they would adopt her, but then when they saw her scarred body, they backed out. Tom Cat took one look at her and insisted we take her...and her daughter...home. She lived with us for 13 years, and ruled the household. Her daughter was kept in line, the other two tom cats, when they came in, learned quickly who was the boss, and deferred to her always. I'm not sure who will take over now. I'm not sure they quite know that she is gone, either. Can't really blame them....it's not quite set in with us, either.
Catdancer isn't dancing right now. And uppitycats isn't feeling all that uppity, either...CindyIrfan.jpg
