Wow, you can do that! That's really good! I do t think I could do that or my shins would seize up. It sounds like a good work out. Using the motor scooter at Publix today, I was thinking about your comment on how slow they go. They are indeed slow. I would love it to go as fast as the walking people. But I guess some drivers might get into crashes.

:) When I grocery shop I pull a regular cart behind my scooter. The only problem is the sticking out displays at the ends of aisles. I often pull something off or knock them over. I prefer the displays in the middle of the aisles instead of at the ends. I shop at Publix and they have a lot of them. Jeanie :)

I've had some dramatic crashes with those grocery store scooters too.

One time I banged into a bin of potatoes, and potatoes went flying all over the floor of the produce section.

Of course I know that!! It all depends on the person. I know plenty of people with high degrees who can not even find a job. I was just talking off the top of my head there. I meant some people who don't bother to accommodate us do not think we can contribute to society as disabled people and assume we sit at home doing nothing but be depressed over the disability. It was just a clumsy way of saying it. My bad! I know plenty of people who have no degree or who are severely mentally disabled and they still contribute in wonderful ways so I am not saying one needs a degree to be contributing either. Sorry for confusion!

She wanted mashed potatoes, and was just getting an early start.

I just ordered some blue/purple potatoes and they're supposed to retain their color during cooking. Should make for an interesting side dish at Christmas!

Vicky, i found them so odd that I could not eat them.

OTOH, I have no trouble eating Terra Blue Chips (especially Blues and Sweets).

I don't think I could eat potatoes that were purple either. Was it the color or the taste that put you off, ANN?

Haven't I also seen purple cauliflower in stores? I didn't feel inspired to try it.

They have purple potato chips out there now in the health food section, or maybe it's a multi-colored chip pack that has red in there too.

I actually quite enjoy purple potatoes!

Has anyone tried purple yam cake? It is to die for, yum yum!!

                        Found this info:

Appearance: small to medium-size; oblong to fingerling; deep purple, blue or slightly red skin; blue, purple lavender, pink or white flesh

Texture: moist; firm flesh. Note–all blue and purple Peruvian varieties have higher starch content and a floury texture
Flavor: earthy, nutty, low sugar content
Preferred Uses: roasting, grilling, salads, baking

Most blue/purple potatoes have moist, firm flesh that retains its shape while adding rich, vibrant color and luscious taste to salads. The purple color is preserved best by microwaving, but steaming and baking are also great ways to cook blue/purple potatoes. Because of their mild yet distinctly nutty flavor, blue/purple potatoes naturally complement green salad flavors.

The cooked potatoes were a purple-gray. They tasted like potatoes, Agate.

Yukon gold have been a favorite, too. I don't like them. They taste waxy to me. pretty color, though! :) I've not encountered blue potatoes at our local store. I'll have to look for them when I get to a bigger market. on a related note -- pink, yellow, and creamy white beets! I always thought beets were...well....beet color - - that deep reddish-purple to purple. Turns out there are a bunch of different varieties. Some are sweeter than others, but they all retain their color when cooked, and are cooked and eaten the same.

They sell purple potatoes a lot of times at the Whole Foods near my house. I have yet to try any, however I thought they just tasted like potatoes, but were a different color. Since I haven't tried them I don't know why I thought either way.

People keep saying they taste like potatoes. But potatoes can taste so different from one another, can't they?

To me, a new potato that you boil tastes so different from a baked potato (russet, Idaho) that they're hardly both potatoes at all.

One gets the sour cream along with the salt and pepper, or the butter you put on it instead of the sour cream melts in a completely different way from the butter you put on the other.

This probably makes no sense to anyone. I apologize.
