    Rollator--opinions welcome

I'd welcome opinions on this rollator. Some may recall that I recently got new "ski glides" for the walker I have, which came to me after having been used by a couple of other people. It's fine for getting around outside but not so good if I stand it beside the bed and want to use it to provide support for getting out of bed. It rolls. I wanted something with brakes.

So after a lot of hemming and hawing I've settled on this:

These rollators are very popular around here but I've never wanted one because the seat would be useless for me. I can sit only on my special wheelchair cushion, usually. I can sit on some surfaces for 10 minutes at most.

But I rethought this and realized that even a few minutes of sitting while I'm out walking can help sometimes. If the seat isn't too hard. If it's too hard, I can't last one minute. But these rollator seats do have some padding.

I'm bypassing the doctor and Medicare and the problem of finding a medical equipment supplier for this purchase. I checked with several medical equipment places and was told, "We no longer handle walkers" or "We don't do Medicare/Medicaid."

I found this one on Amazon for only $55 and it has good reviews. It can be parked with its brakes on.

There might have been a way to attach braking legs to my walker, for only about $15-20, but I have trouble making adjustments of any kind to that walker. My hands aren't really up to the job.

And the brakes would be the kind you have to tinker with at the wheels, the way some pieces of furniture have braking wheels. My experience with those is that they don't work so very well and can be hard to deal with.

I like the basket on this rollator. Next time I run out of something, as was happening during the snow recently, I just might be able to make it over to the convenience store with this rollator and pick up a few items.

I agree that even sitting for a few minutes can help.
Also, I'm sure you could probably easily add a chair cushion for extra padding.

I have that exact one. I say go for it!

I have not got one, but with the fact that Vicky has the same one and is recommending it, I would say it sounds like a good choice.

:) My Mother had one and when she died I brought it home. My Mother kept all her meds and a pad a pen to record when she took a pill in the basket. I do use it occasionally but mostly use a scooter now. The brakes work good and it is easy to use it for help rising. Jeanie :)

Is it hard on the back to stoop over to push the thing?

If you're stooping over to push it, you need a different rollator or walker as I understand it. The physical therapist I was going to a few months ago said that I need to be careful when using the walker not to lean into it, to try to maintain good posture.

All walkers and rollators can be adjusted to your height, I think.

I'm 5'2" and adjusted mine so I can stand up straight.

:) It should be easy to adjust the height. Look at Agate's photo of one. Where the blue part meets the chrome part there are handles to loosen the bars and raise them up. Jeanie :)

Jeanie, I watched a video of somebody putting it together, and it does look easy enough to assemble--and adjust.

Joanie you will love them,, I have one just like yours,, and another, called " Drive", that is a combination, rollator/wheelchair, which I used, when we go out, and if I get tired I use it as a wheelchair

I looked at some of the "Drive" rollators too and liked the look of them.

It's good to know so many people have had positive experiences with a rollator like this. I had doubts about letting it take up space in the bedroom but the other walker has been doing that for weeks now and I'm not minding it. In fact it makes me feel better to know it's there for me.

:)It is also easy to sit on the seat and push yourself around with your feet or have someone push you on it like a wheelchair. I have done both. Jeanie :)
