    (OT) Happy Festivus!

Those who aren't practicing Christians have other ways of observing the winter solstice, and one of the more recent ones (thanks to a Seinfeld show) is Festivus, December 23, the holiday for the rest of us. Christians make up only 31% of the world's population when classified by religion according to Wikipedia, and so quite a few people might be observing Festivus--or some other solstice celebration:

My biggest grievance is that I will be out of beer after tonight, and will have to go to the store tomorrow!

Will the store even be open? I'm just assuming that everything will shut down for the next 2 days.

Not around here, Joan. It would mean loss of revenue for retailers. Most stores in this area will close on Christmas itself but are open late Xmas Eve and early the day after

They are open here on Christmas Eve. They might close a little earlier than usual, but they are open early.

My church has "the burning of grievances" on the Sunday closest to New Years. You write it down on paper and bring it forward and burn it in an offering plate.

I think it is a good practice to a least mentally do this. Unplug old "programs or circuits" that no longer are useful to us.

Burning grievances is good. Airing grievances is good. You could air them, then burn them.

I have a grievance about electric power. Why can't it be dependable? I'm really dependent on it, for heat in winter and for cooling in summer. To say nothing of food preservation and cooking, or the many activities I have that require me to see in a bright enough light.

Yes, I could go back to the good old days and go to bed at sundown since I can't do much in the dark and get up at sunrise and just light a fire somewhere--except that I'd burn this place down since there's no fireplace.

So what I must need is a fireplace. A place with a chimney for Santa to come down. He can't visit me because there's no chimney.

And I need a place where I can burn my grievances.

That's good Agate! Howie is going to have one if he doesn't already, but it will be electric so I am not sure that would help with any power problems. I have a regular fireplace but can't burn my grievances because I had gas logs installed and I must not throw anything on the logs or burn anything other than gas in the fireplace.

My grievance is with Spectrum, my internet, cable and phone provider. They just keep going up, up, up on their bill and the service is not that good. My Spectrum e-mail is still not working and they supposedly fixed it when I had all the problems with e-mail just a couple of weeks ago. They went up again earlier this week when I got my bill. I have not called them because I didn't want to spoil my Holidays. I paid it, but I do plan to call them later. That is another grievance. They are very hard to deal with. Spectrum - BAD

By the way Agate, did you get your computer fixed?

Virginia, my computer seems to be fixed--so far. I still have to reinstall the scanner and the camera using disks but Norton Antivirus wasn't hard to reinstall, and I was really astonished at not having to reinstall the printer. It was already there. No disks, no drivers to worry about.

                          Thank you, Bill and Melinda.

                          Howie, how's the heater?

The heater works well, and looks even better. It has super realistic looking flames and logs with hot coals glowing. I still have one of the old heaters in this room, and between the two, it keeps the whole place warm. I'll be interested in the electric bill and see if it is much higher.....or lower.

                            Merry Christmas everyone!
