UTI, IVIG Infusions, & Low Thyroid

Well, the test done at my endo's office came back positive for a UTI! My thyroid needs more Levoxyl! I have another 3 days of IVIG/Solumedrol infusions this week. Talk at You'all later.....Gabriella

The weather is much nicer at the moment but it is to return into the 80's.

You should not have IVSM when you have a UTI or any infection.!!! It could make it much worse. Talk to your Doc.

Parsi how old is your son now? He was young when we first started on the forums here.

Lady, he is 29. He was in 5th (?) grade when I started having problems. I don't remember when Cat Dancer told me about this forum. I lurked a bit before joining. The forum was M(something)3 at the time. Shortly after it turned to M(something)4 (older posts archived). Then there was a major change: new format or flood or new server?

[snipped].....We have been searching for another house that is more suited, or can be adapted, to life in a wheelchair, but that type of house is nowhere to be found. Looking for a one story, slab foundation, roomy, wide hallways, room for a craft room for me and room for DH to build a shop. We've even considered building a house, but a decent affordable lot is hard to come by in our neck of the woods. We're probably too picky . . . champagne taste on a beer budget . . . guess I better start buying lottery tickets! In the meantime, I dream....

Goodness October all ready?!?! Here in the Spud State it has been hot yesterday it was 91 broke heat records as yesterdays record was set in 1881. Tomorrow it is supposed to rain.

I have been lurking no good reason I just have been dealing with the fatigue and now the Thrush in my mouth is back. YUCK. I have a dentist appt this Wednesday so I may have to postpone it. I need major dental work and I just obtained dental insurance.

I am really losing track of time. It's been more than a week since I even clicked in here and there was a time I would be on this board several times a day.

Life is busy. I am recovering from a 25 month stint with high dose Cytoxan every 1-3 weeks. ( 9 weeks since my last dose and I'm still VERY immuno suppressed.) I have a bit more energy (cooler weather?) and my eyesight and spasticity seem to be improving a bit. See three different docs in three weeks to decide where to go from here. There really aren't many options after that long on Cytoxan. Can't do Novantrone or Tysabri. Gilenya is questionable. The CRABs have been tried and lost effectiveness. Hence, I am very interested to hear of Peg's progress.

Dave and I have been spending a lot of quality time together the past month. We are reading aloud together after dinner instead of turning on the TV. Sunday, he powerwashed the sunroom outside while I washed the windows and floor inside. Today we went to a "Get Motivated" seminar with Bill Cosby, Rudy Guliani, Colin Powell, and a half dozen other very successful people. Long day but I was reminded over and over that life is not over and there are so many possibilities yet to be played out. Good day. Two more seminars (2 and 3 consecutive 8 hour days with a 45 min commute each way) in the next couple of weeks but I somehow feel that is doable at the moment.

Kids are good. Grandkids are great. I look at where I was 10 years ago when I discovered this site and am so much improved on all fronts. I don't like where I was then and am so much more whole in so many ways now. It is a good day.

I remember you and Cat were from the same town, and were friends (growing up?), then you married and moved far, far away. Those were the good old MGH days, when Cat would rip into us when we were bad. LOL.

Thanks for the welcome back Sally, it's always good to see you!

Gabriella, I've had hypothroidism for more than 25 years. I have gone from taking synthroid to it's generic levoxyl several times over the years in order to save money, and had trouble every single time. All the symptoms of low thyroid return even though the dosage is the same and it's supposed to be the exact same med, just a generic. I will not take the generic any more and do just fine on synthroid.
Please don't misunderstand, I'm not saying you're taking the wrong med, simply sharing my own experience. Hope you get it all straightened out and are feeling better soon.

Parsi, yes, we considered trying to adapt our present house, but there are a few problems that we can't really change. Our house is on a raised foundation and built on a lot that is fairly flat out front, but drops to quite a slope in back. The back side of the house is 4 to 5 feet higher off the ground than the front making it impossible to get out of the house in a wheelchair except through the front door. My husband has built a ramp from the front porch, but cannot build a ramp from the back deck due to the slope of the land, unless the ramp were to end about a block away! Not an option. That leaves me only one exit to get out of the house in an emergency. I don't feel so good about that! Plus constant use of a heavy electric wheelchair on a raised foundation makes for creaking floors, which is why I want a slab foundation, they don't have the give that a wood floor does.
So the search goes on. Ahhh, MS sure can throw a monkeywrench into the plans you had for your life! Adaption is the name of the game.

Cat and I worked in the same place. I don't remember which of us moved first. She is blunt, but has a sense of humor.

Nuthatch, my house is on an old stone foundation but the added LR is on a concrete slab. If you ever fall, you will notice the difference: the LR floor is very hard (oak over something over concrete) and the other floors have a bit of a bounce. I'd want the exit, for sure.
