Agate, I am considering a small one for dry skin and hair. Did company say what you could sit it on. I don't have anything metal. I do have a glass top table that I could put cardboard over. I hate to do that because it means that I would have to move my things off it and then put them back on it the next morning.

I guess if it wasn't easy to clean you would have told us.

Would you mind telling me which one it is on Amazon.

    Thanks!

I wonder if I could put it on my tile floor in my bath which is next to bedroom. That would be best for me if I could

      It's this one:

The instructions say "a smooth, flat, lint-free, non-metallic, waterproof and level surface" away from direct sunlight.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the Consumer Reports article on humidifiers that Rose mentioned in this thread. If I had found it, I might have bought a different type, but so far this one seems to be working well, and when I called the company with my question they were very helpful.

I think the main concern is that this is a container filled with water, and when it's on, it's actually spraying a very fine mist into the air. You do have to make sure that the water isn't damaging anything you care about.

Thanks for link Agate. I am having to rethink this because I have wallpaper in my bathroom and I don't want to mess that up.

It has a knob on it for directing the flow of the mist. I always make sure I've directed it away from things that might be damaged.

Agate, is there any way to turn the light off so that there is not any light coming from it? Also, I have looked around my bedroom and on the opposite side from my bath that has the wallpaper I have a glass and brass dressing table, which I have a lamp and some pictures on. I could, if necessary take the lamp off or direct the flow of mist away from it. Do you think glass would be good to sit it on?

My house is so dry that my plants seem fine and don't need watering and then all of a sudden they are wilting. I could take it in the room where they stay in the daytime. That is my living room and I have a glass and wood coffee table. I think I could sit it on the glass part and make sure that no mist was going directly on the wood.

Glass would probably be excellent. There are 3 settings: off (no light, no mist), on but without the night light (tiny light glowing to indicate that it's on, and the mist), and on (mist plus the night light--which is really just a blue illumination of the upper part of the unit.

This type of humidifier comes in a couple of other models. They might have features that you'd like. I was aiming for the least expensive thing that would do the humidifying without being complicated.

Me too Agate, I don't want anything complicated. I am going to order it. Thanks for all your help and input.

Disappointed - I ordered the humidifier on the 18th through prime and I was wondering why it had not come. I looked the order up on Amazon and it is scheduled to be delivered between the 24th and 26th of December. Maybe it is the Christmas rush.
