Haiku

Several years ago, we had a Haiku thread here. Thought some of you might like to have some fun with it again. This is the starter writing from that old thread cut and pasted here:

Haiku is a poetry style of writing that allows the person writing the freedom to creatively use wording without the need to rhyme. It has a distinct pattern in that the first line has 5 syllables, second line 7 syllables and third line 5 syllables. Technically, Haiku deals with some form of nature but here we can certainly waive that criteria.

Here are a couple of examples I have written. Please feel free to create your own.

New day, second chance
To ease mistakes that have past
And make all things fresh.

Whoa! rhyming Haiku
For our members we do woo
We just never knew!!!!!


Heal as you will
Write, medicate, meditate
Health will come to you

"Take Prozac", she says...
Side effects of writing less
I'll take my chances.

Meds take time to work.
Words on the page give relief
Much more quickly here.

Today I woke up.
Got up. Got dressed. Smelled fresh air.
Enjoying the sun.

Not so much aching
As when I was traveling.
More comf-'terble now.

Talking on the phone
my brother calls each weekend
I really enjoy

Howie is man
Man does not speak much
Therefore Haiku is his thing

Me man, me no talk
but when me talk, me say words
communication

Rain and hail splatter
Mud over ferns on patios
Birds usher in spring

A very long day.
Research and wellness program
Dinner theater.

Home now and resting.
Comfortably cool, windy
The air smells so good!

Poets are a dime a
Dozen but haiku wordsmiths
Reign in this domain.

The wind brought some rain.
Today everything is green.
Still cool and breezy.

Compleat's and coleslaw
a Tootsie Roll for dessert
that's a meal for me

Father's Day it is!
Took Dave to eat at UNOs.
Happy guy is he!

Lobster roll, chowder,
Roasted veggies, coleslaw too.
Brownie sundae, yay!

I had a sirloin
Mashed potato too.
Broccoli, soda water.

SATURDAY

Distant train whistle,
steel wheels churning, tracks clacking.
Someone’s coming home.

Roaring jet above,
rattling the clouds and rooftop.
Someone’s coming home.

Screaming sirens wail
piercing afternoon solace.
Someone’s leaving home.

Non-stop barking dog,
lonely for his young master.
Someone is not home.

Cooling sea breeze wafts,
skies turn azure and mango.
Someone’s missing home.
