Linda, I am not sure where this leaves using the drops the rest of the time he was supposed to. Maybe they have another kind that would not be dangerous to John. I just hope his heart will turn out fine. Glad it is a better day for you two.

      ((((((Linda)))))) ~

The hospital did make a mess of that situation, and it's good that they admitted to it. Also, I'm glad that the physician(s) acknowledge the beta blocker as the culprit for John's symptoms. I'm praying that we are all correct, and John will recover quickly.

You've been through quite a lot recently. I hope you're both resting and relaxing tonight.

      Love & Light,

        Linda,
I hope things have settled down and your DH is on the road to complete recovery now.
Every time I have been to the ER they have questioned me about allergies to any medications. It is unsettling to realize that the hospital may have actually made a scary enough situation that much more dangerous by not checking out the medication ingredients with his allergy sensitivities before it was administered or prescribed. What ever happened to erring on the side of caution? Can't help but wonder how many elderly patients have had unexpected, unexplained heart problems due to exactly what happened in your husband's case.

          Thanks Nuthatch....
We never say that he is allergic to beta blockers. That is not medically accurate but essentially correct. The beta blocker danger for John came when he had a failed quadruple bypass. I am mentioning the beta blocker problem not to complain but because it is so useful.to share what happened then. (5 years ago)

When John was not getting better after the bypass the doctors kept dismissing his.complaints...he was old, not trying to improve etc. it took us a couple of years but John finally realized his doctors were not helping and his PCP made a connection for him with a cardiologist in a Boston hospital.

That doctor knew and he was the FIRST doctor to tell john that his bypass had FAILED. This was now almost 5 years after the operation. The bypasses had failed within a week after his surgery. All 4 had failed. Imagine. All that time of heart doctors essentially scolding him for his continued weakness.

The Boston doctor said he could try something surgically but he was now 80 years old and it was more dangerous etc. the cardiologist had discussed John with his colleagues at Harvard and Deaconess and the suggestion was to stop taking the beta blocker. He said it might take weeks for it to clear his system but they all thought it worth a try. A few weeks after he stopped he suddenly got better. The most distressing symptoms of weakness and mental haze disappeared.

This saga continues with local cardiologists but is not related to the current situation resulting from the cataract surgery. We have been putting the eye drop idea together because I started looking and found.an article from Harva4d that mentioned the drops as a potential problem. And Rose gave me information that made us pursue seeking info. Whew!
This is a long night and I am fully awake....

          Thanks for listening!
          Linda
P.s. John cataract surgery is resolving after the infection which is great...but the resulting heart problems have not. One step at a time but finding the road is too tough.

My sister is asleep. So, I right away came t this thread, out of concern for Laz and John. I am grateful this doctor caused issue is resolving. There is time now to figure out the next step. I am grateful for Rose and for Rose’s knowledge. I am grateful to all of the people here who banded together to help and support Laz. In some ways, being asmall group, rather than our former large community has been helpful rather than rickety.

Linda, this must be a very stressful time. And I think it's hot there as well? I hope you can do whatever you can to make things easier for yourself.

And I thank you for being here! I did a farmers’ market today and lasted until the end! The stress of the heat made all of us more pliable? Lots of fun conversations...

I was thinking of you, Linda, wondering if the day would end with a bucket of water over your head.

Yes, there was a customer who is a radiologist and he stopped to buy some plants from me. I asked him to do me a favor...and yes, he happily poured water over my head!

Linda, would one of those chillable neck rolls be of any help? I used them for a while. One was filled with flaxseed (I think) and needed to be chilled in cold water. Another one had inserts for gelpacks that you kept in the freezer until you wanted to use them.

With both types I found that their effect lasted only for less than 2 hours.

Linda, thought of you today, and wondered if you were still working. It is cooler here because it clouded over this morning and has rained some. I was hoping the same for you, but then the rain might keep customers away. Hope you and John are doing alright now.

I'm glad that you found supporting information that the drops can cause problems.

How horrible that John's 4 physicians treated him so poorly and didn't tell him that his by pass had failed! I'd call that "doing harm."

Do you wear a wet suit to Market? Would a water spray bottle help you throughout the day? I'm just amazed at all that you go through at the Market. I hope that the blazing heat will dissipate soon.

Healing prayers on the way for John and you.

I am in a situation like a construction worker...these things are too weak to be useful. But the water baths are great! And my customers just love helping me out! I have wet towels too. I really did ok....drank a lot and never got into serious trouble.

Thanks. Here it was 100° and very humid. I drank tons of water and was saved because there were overcast skies and a slight breeze. I was very lucky that the sun only blared down on me once in a while.
