Jeanie ~
Many prayers on the way for your SIL. I hope that she will be able to have a phone chat with you soon. I know you're worried and wish that you could be there with her. You are in spirit.
I'm sorry that Andy and Torre don't see the magnitude of COVID-19 and its impact upon you and those, who are vulnerable.
Lately, when I've been checking the news periodically, I have watched interviews with physicians and scientists stating that the reason COVID cases are increasing is not because there is more testing. It's because the virus is spreading.
They are also emphasizing that many people, who have COVID-19, are asymptomatic. Today, a doctor, who is on the front line in treating COVID patients in a hospital/ICU said that we should view every person we encounter as potentially carrying COVID-19.
We have to be vigilant about protecting ourselves. Like you've done so many times through hurricanes. Board up the windows, stay inside and ride it out.
Virginia ~
I'm missing agate too. I hope she will check in soon.
And, just a plea to all ~ check in occasionally, so that we all know how you are, that you are safe and healthy.
Sending prayers and healing energy to all ~
Love & Light,

Rose

I have new masks ordered that have the wire where the nose is to make it filter all the air you breath. I wore my old mask today, and you can feel the air rushing by my nose.
And I discovered today, I've lost my key to my mailbox. So I have the yellow pages out, and turned to locksmiths, and will get a new lock, or key, or both. I have a few things ordered that are coming USPS, so it's important I get this fixed.

I'm sorry I've been so busy lately that there just hasn't been much time or energy for posting.
It's annual housing recertification time, and the first interview is today. There needs to be at least one more interview but not until some time in August. Meanwhile, I'll be busy getting the papers together.
And on Wednesday I have another appointment--the dentist this time, an appointment that was scheduled for March but got postponed.
And the neighbor I've mentioned before (who would have been 98 in a few days) left this world on the 23rd.I'll miss hearing from her.
She was a very nice person and sharp as a tack right up to the end. She didn't have the coronavirus--it seems to have been the extreme pain of shingles plus a fall that sent her to the hospital, and then she pretty much stopped eating though the point of her stay in a "post-hospital treatment center" was to build her up.
Well, either the hospital or this other place lost her all-important upper denture, and so all she could eat was pureed food, which she wasn't eating. I'm afraid that without her denture she gave up. Also one of those places lost her all-important cellphone until just a few days before she died. Or they took it away because she was threatening to call the police to get her out of there. Stories differ on what happened about that phone.
Anyway, because she had given me her keys, I'm one of the people dealing with her belongings, which have to be out of the apartment by July 13. In the past when someone dies here, there's sometimes an open house where all the residents can come in and take what they want.
We can't do that this time. They'll be able to come in and take what they want but only one at a time, and by appointment only.
Before that happens, three of us who are involved in this project have to sort through her belongings and make sure personal items get discarded or sent to the daughter.
I'm going to be busier than usual for a couple of weeks but am planning not to overdo. I overdid yesterday and by evening the sciatica was kicking up. Agate, sorry about your neighbor. You will miss her. Apparently the daughter lives some distance from there, otherwise I would think she would be the one to go through her Mother's things. Please be very careful with yourself, both because of overdoing and the virus, since you will have contact with other people. It is a shame that your friend didn't have her dentures and also was without her cell phone. That would have meant a lot to her during her final days.
My brother and his wife brought over some groceries. She also brought me 5 more mask that she had made. She does a good job. I already had two from her. They tell me to boil them every time I wear them.Virginia

Virginia, a son and a daughter are in states where the coronavirus is bad. The son is 75--the daughter is still working but probably past retirement age herself. They can't travel here because of the coronavirus. They can't even stay in their mom's apartment so they could go through things because this building has a "no visitors" policy now.
They also may not want to spend the money that it would take--and they weren't especially close to their mom, unfortunately. I'm in touch with the daughter now because there are things she wants. Another neighbor sent photos of the apartment to her, and she has visited there--only a couple of times briefly in the last 10 years!--and knows what's in it. The son doesn't want anything but he has the power of attorney, and so another neighbor is in touch with him about the financial questions.
It's all fairly straightforward, and she set things up in advance, designating this other neighbor and me in the way that she did. But because of the coronavirus, everything is much more complicated.Last edited by agate; 06-30-2020, 09:32 AM.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Yes, it's these major life events that are putting quite a strain on everyone because everything has to be done differently or not done at all--graduations, funerals, birthday celebrations, weddings.SPMS diagnosed 1980. They came and fixed the lost key to my mailbox. I have 3 now.
I put one on my key ring, and the other two in my desk. He said I have a lot of mail in there, which means one or both or the items I ordered are here. I'll get everything tomorrow when I make my trash run to the dump."Given the millions of billions of Earth-like planets, life elsewhere in the Universe without a doubt, does exist."

Recertification, a dental appointment, and the loss of your friend and attending to her estate ~ your plate is overflowing. You are in my prayers.
I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm sad that her care was subpar. Losing dentures and cell phones. I'm just shaking my head and really disturbed. I know about sub acute care facilities, as does Jeanie, as did Cat, and many others. It's heartbreaking.
She trusted you to take care of her personal belongings, which is a true affirmation of friendship. You are a wonderful friend to ensure that her wishes are realized. I hope the disposition of her belongings will go smoothly.
Sending you positive energy and prayers for strength.
Love & Light,

Rose

I was thinking of those friends we make as our lives get smaller and the people who were part of our lives disappear. Strong and intimate friendships grow within elderly communities that are uniquely lovely. Your friend, Agate, was lucky indeed.Linda~~~~
