Yes, the water was too cold for me to go all the way in today but man was it clear. A gorgeous beach day. On the way home we stopped at a small provisions store own by a chef. I bought some Gruyere Cheddar. Yum.

Ann, I am sure the Cheddar is good. I have some Gouda. However, if I was at the beach for a week, I would have fresh seafood for at least 5 nights.

There's been no news of Jeanie for quite a while, and so I called her son and left a message, saying that people here are wondering how she's doing and might want to send a card but don't know where to send it.

I'll post again if any news comes my way.

Agate thanks for doing this for us. I have been thinking we would hear again. I have been getting more concerned as time goes on. I hope she is just in rehab and Jim hasn't gotten around to letting us know. (a good, nice rehab)

Thank you for calling Jeanie's son. I do hope that he replies to you soon. Like Virginia, I've been concerned and want her to be in a good rehab. Actually, I prefer that she is receiving home health care, but I think that is unlikely. I continue to send healing prayers Jeanie's way.

A vegetarian, who eats fish occasionally, is referred to as a "Pescatarian." I am a Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian, because I eat egg whites and dairy cheese.

Once as I was having dental work, the hygienist asked whether I ate fish. My mouth full of tools, I shook my head "no" and circled my hand around my face. The hygienist asked the dentist what I meant, and she replied, "Nothing with a face." The hygienist seemed surprised and said, "Not even fish?!" Once again, I circled my face with my hand. The dentist laughed, "Fish have a face!"

Hope you and Peter are continuing to have a lovely vacation.

Rose, I spend every evening the same way. Sitting on the bed, watching TV, and on the laptop. I do have to take a break to eat a meal, then back to the same thing until bedtime. Boring, but it's all I feel like doing these days.

Oh, and waiting on Sam hand and foot, but that's a given.

Why of course fish have a face! In fact, I think I've heard "fishface" used as an insult, as in "You fishface!"

Fish I've known have definitely had faces.

Rose, I'm a lacto-ovo-vegetarian too. Sometimes, very occasionally, I'll eat some shrimp or tuna. Or the odd sardine. I was too fond of dairy products to give them up, and getting enough protein on a strictly vegan diet seems to be trickier. I get a lot of protein from cheese and yogurt.

Quiet in here today. Maybe everyone here is having a weird day like I am.

I feel like it should be 11 o'clock by now. And all day, it has felt much later than it has been when I checked the actual time. I think going to bed early last night, and getting up so early this morning is to blame.

I've eaten twice today. I bought frozen dinners that are so horrible, I threw them away, and fixed a good old Compleat's dinner. I didn't have slaw like I usually do because I need to make some, but just couldn't get motivate to make it.

So now it feels like it should be 11 or 12, but not even close. So I will watch TV, and wait. Comet is showing Ray Bradbury non stop, so that's my TV for the day.

News of Jeanie Z

Jeanie's son Jim very kindly returned my call, and now I have an address for her. If anyone would like to send a card or a note, please contact me by PM or e-mail and I'll provide the address.

He doesn't know when she'll be going back home but she's been making good progress. He said something about another rod being put in.

He can't visit her because of the COVID-19 restrictions.

Keeping fingers crossed for Jeanie's speedy recovery.

What brand of frozen dinners did you throw out? If you run out of Compleat, perhaps you can try a different brand. I buy Amy's organic, but I don't know whether her meals would suit your taste of your budget.

Have you stopped making spaghetti? (I think that's what you used to make???) How about baking a potato in the microwave, then putting some butter/margarine, cheese, and maybe bacon bits on top of it? Do you ever fry up a turkey burger, put it on a bun, with lettuce and tomato? That's a good meal. Maybe Sam would give you some of her turkey, so you could make a sandwich? I'm just thinking of easy, quick meals that you could make in lieu of frozen or packaged meals. Do you eat any kind of fruit?

Thank you for the update on Jeanie. I'm glad to hear that she is making progress, and I'll pray that she arrives home very soon. As I recall, Jim told you in your first phone call that Jeanie had a rod and pin placed for her tibia. He referred to it as "another rod and pin," since she has them in her ankle too, I believe.

I'm sure that you told Jim that we are all very concerned about Jeanie. I hope she feels our love and prayers.

Exactly how odd are the sardines?

Since you do eat fish now and then, you would most likely be referred to as "Primarily Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian/Periodically Pescatarian." That label is probably longer than you are tall!

I tried to eat non-dairy cheese, and it just tasted like nothing to me. Jim and I agreed that we couldn't give up eggs and cheese, when we became L-O vegetarians.

For one thing, Jim, as a Brit, loved all kinds of meat and poultry, so for him abandoning all of that was a challenge. Once he realized how much better we were feeling without meat, he was very much on board. But also, as a Brit, eggs and cheese were staples in his life. Jim switched to coconut spread to replace butter. I saute in Ghee (clarified butter with half the fat/calories). And we use coconut milk, as dairy milk is congesting. However, Jim did enjoy yogurt, and ate it to gain weight and protein during his cancer journey.

I still laugh about the hygienist and the dentist.

Rose, without walking all the way up to the kitchen to check, I think the frozen dinners are called Smart Ones. I only bought them because the store was completely out of Compleat's. That never happens, but I guess the virus has interrupted the supply line.

I haven't made spaghetti in a long time. The kitchen is not air conditioned, so it's been too hot lately for me to spend much time there. And making pasta generates steam which makes it even hotter. So maybe come Winter, I can make pasta again.

I will occasionally make a sandwich using Sam's sliced turkey with cheese, but don't let her see me doing it.

Howie, I ate Smart Ones frozen dinners regularly for years. They're put out by Weight Watchers. They stopped making some of their meatless meals, and I got a bit tired of the few that were left but occasionally I'll have Santa Fe Rice and Beans or Angel-Hair Marinara. I've found that unless they're stirred really well during microwaving, they're terrible.

As for Rose's question,

I'd say they're very odd. Their little fish faces just look odd to me. As if they're tired of being so close to one another.

They're packed in there in the tin like sardines.

Glad there is news of Jeanie. I hope she can soon be in a place where we can contact her in person. I am glad Jim returned your call Agate.

Howie, I had a good day. I got up bathed, put my potato soup in the crock pot to cook. (It must be going to be Fall soon, since I am making potato soup). First time in a long time. I watched a church service on TV at 11:00. I like this pastor a lot. They are on TV even when there is no Pandemic. I love the music. The choir is recorded from different years. They are very good and even have an orchestra some of the time.

Then I read a lot. I ate dinner about 2:30 and then washed my hair and took a shower. I blew my hair dry and went back and read some more. I ate supper about six thirty to 7, then I read some more. After that I fixed my hair in hopes that it would hold up for a few days. After that I read until now. So it is time to go to bed. I hope you will have a good day tomorrow.

Guess Ann will be returning from vacation soon. I am going to bed too late tonight. Hope I am not real late getting up, but I probably will be.
