It's so sad about the roommate--and about the disruptions caused by other residents. Rest --peace and quiet--seem to be very important for aging people with physical problems causing problems for them. It must be hard to have much peace and quiet there.

Is there a reason why she couldn't get Talking Books? Was it her hearing? I do recall that she said (a long time ago) that she had hearing aids but they were useless and were just stored away in a drawer. I use hearing aids now but can't use them while listening to a recorded book using earbuds, which I use at night so as not to disturb neighbors. I find that I hear pretty well with the earbuds even though I don't have the hearing aids in. I wonder if she's ever tried recorded reading materials?
They would be sent to her at no cost, and she could listen to them and not have to hear the roommate if she could tolerate the earbuds. Headphones would do as well except that they're less comfortable (I think).SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

I just had a very nice letter from Jeanie's DIL, the one who was married--for 40 years!-- to the son who passed away.
She includes news of Jeanie, saying she has been in the nursing home for 4 years now, mostly bedridden. Unfortunately she says that Jeanie has declined in the last 6 months--and now has been diagnosed with diabetes, She no longer uses her cellphone due to the hand arthritis. Even holding a book is difficult. She watches a lot of TV, mostly game shows.
She has a new room number, 212A, for those who are writing to her. She loves getting letters, her DIL says. She includes an e-mail address and indicates that if anyone here would like to communicate with Jeanie in that way, she will see to it that Jeanie gets the e-mail. Just send me a PM if you would like the e-mail address.
Jeanie is such a trooper, adjusting to whatever MS has been dishing out to her and adapting to the nursing home, a situation where some of us would be kicking and screaming.SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.
