OT October Chit Chat II

I'm in the third day now with no lightening flashes in the left eye. Clearly the vision is significantly lower light than the right eye with only a couple of really dark spots remaining. This is supposed to reabsorb so the light will return.

We turned on the furnace for the first time Sunday night when it was 38 outside and 58 inside. Tried to hold off till November 1.

I've embarked on the Options Trading component of my schooling and it's Greek to me...literally understanding the Delta, Gamma, Theta and Vega and reading the charts (too miniscule with this low vision) to understand how they work is HARD!. But I am encouraged by the fact that when the end of the day arrives, I can accurately relay some of what I've learned to David. I think , since this is Master's level finance, it will be harder than other things to which I have already a basis of knowledge.

But I am feeling so much clearer and with more energy now (13 weeks out from last dose of Cytoxan) that this is the time to tackle something of this nature. Not physically strenuous but mentally challenging.

Dark, rainy and windy here today. Raw. It's the kind of day that makes you want to curl up in a cozy blanket and doze or read. I'm cleaning my desk and organizing it so I have more room to devote to school.

Cherie, having worked for 25 to 30 years in the accounting field and having been Business Manager for two companies, I can understand how this would be challenging, but most rewarding. I always enjoyed what I learned about finance, and then enjoyed working in it. However, after the loss of my husband I made so many mistakes it is pathetic. I thought I knew more than I did, and I of all people knew that I should not make any hasty decisions, but grief does many things to us. I just had to stay busy, and getting everything "settled" was one of the way in which I did that.

Later when I could think more clearly I wished I had not acted, in many instances, so quickly.

But, I do find it fascinating and more so when I am working with someone elses money.:)

Many men/ and or women, get together, educate themselves then form an investment club. They agree to an amount to invest and share information with each other.

Others educate themselves and invest privately with a broker, or do the trade themselves. Some just like to manage their own portfolio in their pension or IRA fund if it is allowable. Some companies have their own portfolio managers, like the huge companies, and it is managed by them. Some do well, others have lost their shirt.

I spoke with a top Investment Broker at one point in time, and he said if you don't have this money to lose, then you don't belong in the market. It is still gambling, so if it means food on the table, people should stay out. His clients were mostly top professionals and many movie and TV stars. This was years ago, when our National Debt ceiling was flat. (smile)

Yes, other people's money would be nice to play with. That's why this program gives us a paperMoney program to practice trading stocks, bonds and options and Watch Lists and portfolios we can pretend create and track to assist in the learning. Fortunately, there are a few friends who are also familiarizing themselves with this as a business continuing ed model and once we all have the basics, we'll get together for dinner periodically and share tips and hints and encourage and teach each other. I think I will find that most helpful.

Snow last night mixed with freezing rain but today is sunny bright and cool (low 40s) with a light breeze. It's nice to see the sun. More snow potentially forcast during a large wet front moving through tomorrow night.

I, too have always been interested in how the market works. When I worked for the state government we had self managed portfolios. I usually did better with my own research than listening to what I was told to invest in. Now that I am on SSDI and they dont allow much if any investment and I had to cash in everything we had to pay medical bills I have to contend myself with just looking on.

I am recovering from my oral surgery one part turned into more than they thought and it smarts pretty good. I woke at 5:30 this morning and thought my wife had kicked me in the jaw. Guess the happy pills wore off and now after 2 hours they are finally kicking in. And yes it is firing up the MS not too bad but a few vision changes and leg pain and cramps. Seems like it is a magnification of the usual stuff. Hoping it stays that way!!! Fingers are not doing what I tell them to do. Good thing I have spell check!

We are having typical fall weather. And now that we have had a hard freeze the leaves have begun to fall the Maple and the cottonwood trees are so brilliantly yellow that it hurts your eyes to look at them in the sunshine. Looking at weather patterns I would guess that we are about 2 weeks out from snow falling. I have not winterized the underground sprinklers but think I better do so soon! Being the original Rube Goldberg I have them rigged so that they do not have to be blown out I have several valves buried in the lines in the lowest points you turn off the mains and open the valves plus auto drains below the heads and gravity does the rest.

I probably should write all of the secrets to the farm down as everything around here has valves, plugs, switches and I carry around the Gerry rigged directions in my head and we all know about the vast wasteland between my ears! If anything ever happen to me my son would have to move back home as he is the only one besides me that knows the family secrets of how our farm is pieced together.

Oh my 8 a.m. and time for a nap?!?

Glad the dental work has been done and praying that the trauma does not kick the MS into high gear again and even more grateful you have an appointment with your PCP tomorrow. It is always a good idea to write down what needs to be done for when you cannot personally do it. Steven should not have to give up his new life to come home and take care of it. Teach it to that passel of new farmers you have on your property. It will stand them in good stead in the future.

Appreciate the update from Peg. Part of me wishes I (or several of us) had the money for this procedure. Where would we be if Craig and Gabriella and Gary for starters were to receive this and begin to reclaim bodies gone terribly wrong?

Lazy Sunday morning here. Woke at 7:30 to use the facilities then just couldn't stay awake:slept two more hours. It's a little below 40 here, sunny, windy and there are traces of last night's snow still clinging to the cars and roof of the garage and hand rails, ramp and walkway. I need to clean out the fireplace, wash the glass doors and lay a new fire for when the time comes that we need to light it. David is going to put dry wall up in a small area in our sun room that was impacted by a roof leak which was repaired this week. We have a day free of obligations to do little things like that.

I wouldn't trust myself to make investment decisions. I just get too confused.

The central air has been readied to put out heat should it get colder in the apt. I set it at 68 degrees. The temp registered at just above that before turning on the heat settings. This evening (abt 7pm) the outside reading is 50. Unfortunately the bedrooms are closer to that. I think the insulation leads something to be desired. For the last few days we've had rain.

Tomorrow night I'll be heading for the airport. I will be in Wisconsin for about a month.

I've just cleaned the fireplace, lubricated the track for the sliding screen and the glass doors and laid a new fire. I've also brought in enough wood and twigs to start a second fire while giving them time to dry from last night's snow....which is still on the grass and ramps but not the driveway or sidewalks.

Sally - the snow was flying here last night w grass still needing a last cut and leaves on the trees. (Oh, my!) Some areas got over 14 inches. We got 3 inches of beauty and worry. Sun has taken care of it.:)

As the sun is inching toward the western horizon, we still have patches of white on the lawn atop unraked leaves. In fact some of the leaves are still green , turning color later than usual this year. Temps have not hit 40 all day despite bright sunlight.
