I found a site with some tips on that, Virginia. Hope this helps!Originally posted by Virginia View PostI love watermellon, but when I buy one of those little personal ones without the seeds and cut into it and it is either overripe or not ripe enough it makes
me so mad. I'll be all set to have some and then it turns out not to be a good one. I don't know how it pick out watermellons so that so you know
you are going to get a good one.

Is it really almost July 8th? The last couple of weeks have been a blur with me working 25-30 hours a week at the office and more at home to learn the software and job duties. For those who do not know, I am the new Transaction Coordinator at David's ReMax office. That means I take files when they go into sales agreements and set up the inspections and connect people with lenders and title attorneys and set up closings and develop the commission sheets for the closing. There are 40+/- agents in the office and most do their own files. I currently have three on my desk but the software they got for me is not merged yet with the archaic program they used to use so I'm working with one hand tied behind my back. It is an AC office one mile from the house and my hours are flexible so once I really get the hang of things, I probably won't need to be at the office more than a couple hours a day.
My dad passed out yesterday morning (stood up too quickly) and broke his hip when he landed (actually the femur is fine...he cracked his pelvis in several places surrounding the head of the femur). had surgery successfully to pin the pelvis this morning. He's almost 85 and has been having a lot of hip pain for about 6 weeks now (other hip) and his doc just told him his prostate cancer has returned and is probably in his bones causing the pain. They did not do any scans for that ,,,just X-Rays... but his doc told him at his age they would not treat further except to give him shots for pain. He already had his testicles removed on his 80th birthday to shut off hormone production (it was in his lymph nodes at that time) and it seemed to radically relieve the swelling and he was able to void on his own less than a week later and has done well until a few weeks ago. We are going to head up early in the week. Fortunately I have 5 siblings up there to help out and there are 5 nurses among those families. Good support system there.
My sister Jean was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2005 , biopsied and found to be benign but MRI last week shows it's now in both frontal lobes and left temporal lobe and she needs to start both chemo and radiation.
All the walking at work the first couple of days saw me with a lot of swelling of feet and ankles and pain. Turns out I have a couple stress fractures in my good foot.
So as you can see, there's a lot going on here.
Peg,
Beautiful grandaughter and puppy! Love B&W Springers but I think my doggie owning days are over.
So much going on here...Jeanie, hope things go well Monday for David.
I'll try and check in more often. Blessings...out,,,

Thanks Vicky for the tips on how to pick a watermelon. I definitely will be trying these 3 things.
Cherie, sorry to hear about your Dad. Hope the hip heals well. Also your Sister is having a hard time.
It's nice that you have a job again and it sounds like one that once you are up to par on it you will not have to stress out or take up too much time.Virginia

Cherie I am so happy that you are working in Dave's office, meaning there is someone to keep an eye on you!!
I can take (or leave) melons my wife cuts them in bite size pieces and puts them on a plate for me. Then I eat them ~meh~ . Yeah you are right I AM SPOILED.
Temp hit 101 today 104 tomorrow and 100+ until Thursday. Lots of quality couch and TV time in my immediate future.
We are beginning to have fresh peas and I think that I can steal some fresh red potatoes.
Stay cool folks!

Slow kick back and rest day. Dad's surgery went well. He's not in a lot of pain. They got him standing by the bed with a walker today and pivoting to a chair and said he did well. He thinks that means he will go home tomorrow. He also thinks "2-3 weeks in Rehab" means Mom can drive him back and forth to the hospital locally for PT. We shall see. He will have his requisite 72 hours in a skilled facility to get home care service from Medicare if it is deemed necessary and their house is fully accessible, ramped, wide doorways, grab bars, etc because my niece who is W/C bound needed that to spend time with them while her parents were at work before she moved into adult transitional housing with full licensed staff.
David's out in his kayak trying to get some good photos of the Tall Ships in Newport Harbor.
Gary,
David's office is across the hall and 6 doors down from me but we rarely see each other at the office and often don't even know when the other is there unless we see the car when we come in or leave. So much for that wish.
BTW: I put diced melon on salads along with nuts and seeds and raisins. We love it that way. And I have it frequently in my breakfast smoothies made with fresh fruit and yogurt.Last edited by Cherie; 07-08-2012, 12:20 PM.

My AC in the car must have been possessed by an evil spirit. Here is why I think that......My husband was going to get some freon for the car and drove it to the AutoZone to ask about getting it but did not buy any. He is such a saintly creature that he performed an exorcism without even trying! The AC started blowing out cold air on the trip back home!
Renee, You might want to take your van to the local priest to peform an exorcism before you shell out all those bucks for repairs. Maybe the heat has something to do with it as it is certainly "Hot as Hades" here.

Hmmmm, Gabriella I have a friend who has a Cadillac and the A/C is out on that. Maybe you or your husband could give him some pointers on performing
an exorcism since you also have a Cadillac. Well, on the other hand, it probably wouldn't work. He is not a saintly creature. Wish he was.Virginia

Yes it was strange as a few days before the AC went out all the lights for the dashboard were out for a day and then they came back on but the AC still didn't work. It was defintely possessed and we don't know what happened to cause it to suddenly start working again.
Wish we could help your friend but we really don't know anything about what makes cars do strange things.

I remember Cherie from years back. Good to see you are still around and doing well! Do you folks still do the LeafWatchers tour in the fall?
I don't think outside the box. I don't think inside the box. I don't even know where the box is.
Never odd or even, it's all the same coming and going.

renee, that's an interesting avatar change!
I don't know why you had to fracture a toe though. I'd definitely blame it on the MS. What is done for a fractured toe? Hope you'll get through this without pain or inconvenience but that's not the usual way of fractures. Too bad we're such an accident-prone bunch of people.
Cherie, I'm glad your father came through the surgery OK. Sounds as if you have more than enough on your plate what with the job and concern about your dad and sister.
Sparky10, I'm not able to answer your question about Leafwatchers except that some of the organizers of that event haven't been posting in a while. Maybe someone else knows more--Peg?SPMS diagnosed 1980. Avonex 2001-2004. Copaxone 2006-2009. Glatopa (glatiramer acetate = Copaxone) 12/20 - 3/19/24.

Careful Renee!
Okay I have had enough hot temperatures. We have everything closed off and 3 window A/C units running and it is in the low 80's in the house but it is 100+ outside and is supposed to stay that way until the weekend when it will be in the mid to upper 90's. I have not done anything outside during the day and it gets boring. Even with the A/C going lower80 degree isn't cutting it. I can feel the MS grumbling. I am going to install central air conditioning this fall, this is the last summer I can put up with this. We have a friend that means well but........ she said you can write it off on your taxes well if I made ANY money I would!!
The North Pole is looking good. I wonder if Santa needs any help?
Stay cool everyone.
