Last year's 112' was memorable.

That is dangerously hot. I wouldn't stand 10 minutes of that heat. Around here, it's like the old saying...."It's not the heat, it's the humidity."

Actually it was 116' according to the Washington Post (June 29, 2021). I didn't go out in it.

[Howie]

That sounds like the temp on some other planet, that faces one side towards its sun, but not good ol' Earth. Thank goodness for air-conditioning. I only have a window unit mounted in my man cave...I mean my bedroom, and I have the bed right across from it, and Sam and I spend out days watching TV, and on the laptop, living the good life.

Howie, it really is our humidity. It is very humid here, which makes the heat so much worse. Hope your store run went well and you didn't forget anything.

Virginia, the store trip went great. I stopped for gas first thing, but I really didn't notice the price. The Cruiser runs better on the mid- grade gas, so I just pumped $35 dollars in, then went to be ATM which wasn't working. So I just went to the store, and used my debit card which I don't like to do. I always get cash at the ATM, then shop. But it's done now

I went at 8:00, so the temps weren't too bad. I can feel it now, but the 4 mugs of coffee could have something to do with it.

Yes, you were smart to get out early and get back in. I think the humidity is to be better here this weekend. I might try to get to the store. I think by Tuesday of next week it is going to be really bad again. My car air conditioner is not working all that well, but it is too hot to take it in right now.

[Howie]

I had to fix my air-conditioner last Summer. I don't remember what it was exactly, but the shop fixed it pretty fast, and cheap. I wouldn't be able to drive in the Summer without air-conditioning.

[Virginia]

I was kind of hoping they could just put some antifreeze (or whatever you put in the summer).

Do lightning bugs bite? I was sitting peacefully in my living room when something flew by me. I thought it was a big mosquito, but it started lightning up and I realized it was a lightning bug. I haven't had the doors open today or tonight. The back door was open shortly yesterday when the cleaning crew took out the trash and the recycling, and that was in the day time. I wonder how long they live in the house.

No, lightning bugs are harmless. They light up to attract a mate. Then the sparks really fly!

Never tried bringing lightning bugs indoors for any length of time but an experiment bringing butterflies in was a disaster. The poor things didn't last long at all.

Guilty as charged! I had rigged up a special crate for them with a mesh top so they'd have plenty of light and air and included things that I thought they might like so they wouldn't go hungry or thirsty but they beat their wings against the sides of the crate. Obviously weren't meant to be confined!

It is to be over 100 degrees here this afternoon and tomorrow. Howie is it going to be that hot where you are?

[Howie]

I'm in the middle of a thunderstorm, so that will cool it down some. I don't think it hit 100, but it's been close. Stay in the cool Virginia.

Now I am in the middle of a thunderstorm. It is so dark, thundering, raining, some wind. Howie, you sent it my way, but I can feel it cooling down.
