Tim, I didn't mean to dismiss medication entirely. I believe it's well established that there are meds that help a number of psychotic conditions--provided the people on them keep taking them, of course. I've heard people with schizophrenia who were troubled by hearing voices say that the meds helped to rid them of the voices, and if they stopped the med, the voices came back. Sounds to me as if those meds do work.
jingle, I don't like winter cold and snow and ice either. I can't imagine what state of mind I was in years ago when I would go out every day to work, walking about a mile sometimes when it was 19' below. I can't imagine doing that now. That was in Illinois. North Dakota I'm sure was far worse.
