Oldest granddaughter is hopefully going to have lunch with me today. I fancy home made chips( fries) but my efforts to do so myself have not been good. An air fryer doesn't make good chips. Not even frozen chips made especially to be cooked in one. She is going to cook chips for us. I hope the lunch will turn out well, Tim. Have you ever tried oven-baked fries (chips)? I've never made real French fries but oven made the oven-baked kind. It turned out to be an early tea. I really enjoyed it. Home made fries are so much better. I said about doing the fries myself in future. My granddaughter didn't think that was a good idea given how cack handed I can be. The risk of slipping on dropped oil. Oven baked fries are OK, but definitely a different mouth feel to them.Yet inside there is this perpetual nagging doubt;

Was originally told I would have dentures done 3 months after the last extractions. They were done last August. Turns out there's a huge waiting list . They're currently dealing dentures wise with people who had extractions done in the first quarter of 2023.Yet inside there is this perpetual nagging doubt;

Tim, are there any other options? A different provider maybe? I don't know how fast that list is moving but it doesn't sound good. Does this mean that you're having to be on a soft-food diet in the meantime?

An option would perhaps be going private, but that would be ultra expensive. I'm not on a soft food diet , but there are foods I struggle to eat - peas,sweetcorn, thin slices of ham, can't eat an intact wrap- have to break bits off and eat it that way, can eat chicken but beef and pork are much more difficult to eat, onions difficult to eat,mushrooms difficult to eat.Originally posted by agate View PostYet inside there is this perpetual nagging doubt;

Hardly any dentists take on patients via the NHS . I don't know whether it's due to greed on their part, or whether they're genuinely not offered enough money to treat NHS patients. Ah, we know something about such people right here as it happens. Our own Howie, who wasn't in the UK but was right here in the US, was a big fan of DIY tooth extractions involving pliers.

Is dry rot the same as dry socket? I must have been really lucky enough to have great dentists over the years because they often warned about dry socket and made it sound really bad. So far it's an experience I've missed out on.
--And that possibility is one more reason to take the route I'm taking this time instead of just skipping it and probably needing to have the tooth pulled pretty soon because there's so little left of it. I'm opting to get a crown on it but keep wondering if I should have opted out of that idea because of the nuisance and expense.
That tooth is what is making it possible for me to keep on eating food that isn't just liquid or mushy. I had a friend who spent the last 10 years or so of her life living on mashed potatoes, mushy frozen dinners, apple sauce, juices, eggs, and cottage cheese or yogurt. Not much variety there, and some of those frozen dinners are just barely edible.
