Cool sites, girls! Great horned owls are huge.
There was one in my back yard, sitting on a branch very close to my deck one day. It had it's back to me and I really thought it was a very large cat sitting in the tree, until it turned it's head around and looked at me. It was probably wondering what the crazy woman was doing calling it "kitty, kitty, kitty"!
We hear owls hooting back and forth at night, on a regular basis. In the summer, we hear the screech owls through the open windows, making their high pitched screeching sounds as they fly by, but we never see them.

Our soon to be neighbor built and erected an owl box at the back of his property. I'd like to do the same after we move in the new house. Owls are good to have around for rodent control.
      Neat creatures!

WOW! Watching the great horned owl turn her head around so far is amazing. Wish I could do that!

Here is a Barred owl nest with a new baby...if the Mom ever moves and shows it to you.
There are some recent videos of the baby, if you scroll down, in chat.

Looks like Iris will only be laying 2 eggs this year. Last year she laid 3. I'm sure 2 will be plenty to keep her busy.

Just in case anyone needs a bald eagle fix, here is a site with three cams on two different nests on Catalina Island off the California coast.

The #1 cam is on the Two Harbors nest, which has one eggs in it now. I imagine there will be more eggs soon.
The #2 cam is on the West End nest, which an eagle pair are working on fluffing up to get ready. I love this cam because you can see the ocean in the background and you can actually hear seals barking in the distance and see an occasional boat go by.
The #3 cam is on the same nest but from a farther away vantage point which give you an idea of the terrain and how high up they are.

I also came upon this site today, which is an albatross nest with a 4 week old chick in it, in Hawaii.

Last but not least, Tinkerbell's nest, which has two brand new eggs in it. Tink is an Allen's hummingbird, nesting in a potted ficus tree not far from Emma's nesting spot in a chandelier under the patio cover, in a backyard in Southern Calif. This is the 7th nest at this site! They must serve good food here!

It's looking like birding season is beginning, at least in some places!
